Sorry to disappoint, but I've sold this guitar! That's why there's no picture any more...

Hi all, long time reader here (rarely post); had to share my new guitar! The included link shows the Fiesta Red '57 reissue I just got. I swapped a sunburst AVRI Jazzmaster for it. Not sure of exact year, but the serial number is V050786, so I'm thinking it's an early '90's model. If you can give greater clarity, PLEASE chime in.

It's pretty cool how this color changes from red to orange depending on the type of light (sunlight vs artificial). Sorry for the poor quality pics (cheap, old camera). Not sure how to post a pic, but here's a link to my photobucket slide show!

Can I have your guitar. I really like the looks of that one. You have now given me major GAS.

I understand! It's pretty great the way it looks different depending on the type and amount of light that hits it! It's growing on me... My fingers are actually sore from playing it all day! The original owner had it blocked with some wood chips (visible in some of the pics). I took them out when I re-strung it, feels more resonant without them so I'm leaving them out! I have 5 springs in now too and what appeared to be wear marks on the 19-21 frets ended up just being grime that came right off with a good cleaning... Pretty decent shape for a 20-something year old guitar, I think. I had second thoughts about trading the 2005 Jazzmaster for it, but I'd gotten it in trade and didn't have too terribly much in it so I went for it. What do you think, good deal? Hard to tell the value of older strats...value is truly in the hands of the holder, I think (or those who want it! LOL)...

Cool how it changes color depending on the light source.
Enjoy!

Nevin, thanks for that tidbit of info! Didn't know that about the cases! My case appears to be real leather on the ends! Another clue is that my neck isn't a "V" neck (I have owned both Clapton and Buddy Guy sig strats and currently own a CP50 so I recognize the shape), it's more of a "C" shape...

To me this is another clue towards early a late '89 or an early '90s. I've checked eBay and the Fenderreissue.com site and copared styles and serial numbers with mine as well... Got a nice email from the site owner too... I'm encouraged it's a turn of the decade model, just not sure the year.

You're right, the neck stamps are smudged and the pots tell me very little. Here's what they say: Volume = 8922 01344, Tone 1 = A R1379022, Tone 1 = 8922 013445 (both 250 A pots, audio taper I believe). This is kind of like detective work!

It's a shame those dates are smudged. However, based on the neck shape it's definitely an earlier one. Don't forget that David Gilmour prefers necks like the one on your guitar - he had that small "C" shape copied from his favorite 1983 '57 Reissue neck for his Custom Shop signature Strat. Very cool piece!

I know that there is a date code in the numbers stamped on the pots, just not sure how to read them. Maybe, the 8922 means the 22nd week of 89? It is something like that, but the approx date should be there on the pots.

I think Hot Rod Red is a cross between Torino Red and traditional Fiesta Red. They all look great to me.

Hi collinsml: fab Strat, congrats!

I also have a Fiesta Red '57RI bought new last year. Regarding the neck, mine is supposed to be a soft V - in fact it is so soft you could almost call it a hard C. If you see what I mean. So I'm not sure the carve of the neck is much of a clue to dating.

Anyhow. If we could only have one Strat it would just have to be Fiesta! The ultimate Fender color. Luckily, we can have more than one Strat (hee-hee!)...

Cheers - C
