Hi I am looking at adding an S-1 switch to my John Mayer strat but would like some help regarding the capacitors used. I believe there's already a .022 on the tone circuit of a Mayer strat? but in the S-1 wiring diagram it mentions a 'speacials capacitor' but offers no value. Could anyone shed some light on this please?

Also I don't want to open a can of worms here but could anyone offer advice on the best type of capacitor for this application? i.e. paper in oil etc.

Many thanks,

Paul

Hi Paul and Welcome!

The Specials Cap is a pretty cheap 0.05mf ceramic cap.

I've wired up serveral S-1 swithces and recommend using better quality 0.022mf or 0.033mf Mylar cap. The SC will take out some of the higher frequencies when engaged so unless you want a bass heavy Jazz tone I'd wouldn't go higher than 0.033mf.

Hope this helps and let us know haow you get on.

Andy
