I actually have an older MM Strat and it has been my favorite guitar for several years. It has a great sound and stays in tune better than any electric that I have owned. I have had some trouble recently with the sound cutting out through the amp so I am in the process of upgrading everything under the hood. I'm sure that when I'm done, it will be better than new, unless I screw up the wiring

I have played for many years in several bands and since it's only for fun, I am just fine with the cheaper models.

[quote="Rags"]Ive got a 50s model (Mex) with on the back of the headstock the serial number + a little "60th anniversary" plate: Can anyone tell me the full name of this specific model?

and

Are 50s strats always from Mexico?
cause if I check out a pickguard that fits my guitar, it always says: Fits 50s stratocaster (MEXICO)[/quote

I belive what you have there is a "Classic 50's Stratocaster" MIM with the badge to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Fender.

I had a similiar reaction when I first joined this forum over a "Classic 60's Stratocaster" which I totally enjoy.

Your have a fine instrument and since you probably got a decent deal when you bought it, go ahead and get some pickups when you are ready for something different and save what parts you remove that way if you ever want to bring it back to its origional condition you can. Also while you are at it you may as well go ahead and pick up another pick-guard to mount your new pups on to, along with a few pots in which you can make some other changes to the 50's vibe to something a bit more updated. After all that's what many guitarists were doing after there Strat 50's /60's etc. was in need of some newer and different tones.

50's Stratocaster:

or,

There are others and no they are not all MIM, e.g. Custom Shop however, there are differences to the pick guards 50's have fewer screw holes.

Thx for the info.

Ive got a surf green one and Im replacing all white parts (pickguard, knobs, pupcovers, switch knob) with black parts. It ought to look awesome.

Im not planning on changing any pups though, I like the sound of my strat (even though I cant really compare to any other guitars cause its my only one) as it is now.

so anyway, thanks for confirming what I thought of my guitar.
