I bought a MIM Deluxe Players Strat 2 months ago and the guitar has been everything I expected it to be, and more. I love this guitar!!

It's very playable with great tone and sonic possibilities, 7-different pickup selections, and it keeps its tuning amazing well--through heat and cold. I've taken it on the road a lot and I'm always confident I can pull it out and it will be in tune, ready to play. That's a credit to the choice of woods, the tuning pegs and bridge, the craftsmanship that went into building it, and the great setup on this guitar right from the factory. This guitar has impressed me as much or more than any Strat I've ever owned. That's saying a LOT!!

I've owned American Standard Strats, a Jimmie Vaughan Strat, Les Pauls, even had an old Vox strat copy back in the 70s. This new MIM Deluxe Players Strat has almost all the features I've ever wanted in a Strat: a 12" radius neck and quiet pickups,. The additional pickup selections are very nice to have, too.

The only feature that Strats lack is the option of a short scale neck. Gretsch has the shortest stock scale at 24.6", then Gibson with 24.75", and Fenders come with 25.5" scale necks. For those of us who don't have hands like Hendrix or Eric Johnson, the bigger scale makes us work a lot harder than, say, a Gretsch neck. (Maybe one of the reasons Brian Setzer has stayed with Gretsch for so long?!)

I'm sure the MIM Standard Strats are great guitars for their average street price of $399, but if you can talk Dad into spending a couple hundred more, get a Deluxe Players Strat. For someone new and learning the guitar a good instrument is just as important as for a seasoned pro.

Good luck with whatever you get!!

Happy pickin'......................

I've got a Deluxes Players STrat from Mexico, very nice guitar. Nice playability after A LOT of adjusting and it comes with Vintage Noiseless Pick Ups which sound very nice, could possibly be upgraded. Haven't touched it since i got a Custom Shop though

Well I was thinking of getting a 07 Deluxe Players Strat that is MIM, because if you've seen this guitar, then you know how great it looks. Plus it comes with vintage noiseless pups. So what do you mean A LOT of adjusting? As in to your preferences or did it have problems with it?

My string adjustment was far off when i got it, and also some fret rattles on the low E. But nothing that couldn't be fixed through patience and tremolo settings.
Mine's a 60 anniversary MIM deluxe player, 3 sunburst, gold hardware and rosewood fretboard, beautiful guitar :P

Classic Mexican Series is more expensive than the High Way 1 in Denmark, so is the MIM Deluxe Player

Nothing bad man. Just that you can put some guys in front of a Caddilac Escalade and a Kia Rio and some will pick the Kia. There's no acountin for taste or beauty is in the eye of the beholder. People like what people like.

Ive got a 50s model (Mex) with on the back of the headstock the serial number + a little "60th anniversary" plate: Can anyone tell me the full name of this specific model?

and

Are 50s strats always from Mexico?
cause if I check out a pickguard that fits my guitar, it always says: Fits 50s stratocaster (MEXICO)

Yep! I've had both American and Mexican Strats. My old beat up Mexican Strat got a lot more play time than my American Deluxe Strat. Sure the American Fenders are more refined, but for the price difference the Mexican Fenders are the way to go.

the american standard, and the mim standard are both terrific guitars, the american is slightly better.
however you totally change when talking about a am deluxe compared to an mim, the deluxe comes with awesome scn p/us.plus tonal switch.
let me tell you, i love that guitar, that one is on my wish list, or th ec with vintage noiseless. the sound is awesome.

however you can get just about any sound from any guitar, the deluxe etc., just add that kick to it. just like playing a squier through a blues deluxe amp, the squier sounds pretty awesome.
if you can afford it, get a deluxe, if you want a great guitar, you can get an mim standard and a tube amp.
i spend alot of time at guitar center, testing guitars and amps.

Well, I wanted the classic 50's Fender sound and feel...no frills, no hot pickups, just pure Fender Strat sound from the 50's...and that's what I got with the 50's Classic Series Strat. Exactly what I wanted, and even the pros in the music store said that. They weren't trying to sell me a bill of goods, either, cause I know those guys. I've been playing Gibsons for a long time, but always wanted a Strat for the sound and they really look cool, too. I got what I wanted in this Strat, and it didn't cost me an arm and a leg. And, looking at it, you can't tell the difference between it and an American Standard. They did a great job on the finish and the details.
Kudos to Fender's quality control, it's much better than Gibson's.

my MIM feels great and plays great but the only problems and the reason i want an american standard is the pickups suck, it doesn't stay in tune as well as it could and the bridge is not quite as good. other than that if your just jamming and on a budget they are awsome. way better than anything else you can get for that kind of money

I am quite satisfied with the service and pricing at my local Guitar Center. Having said that, not so long ago I went there with every intention of purchasing a new American Strat. I even knew exactly what I wanted: White body with rosewood (RW) neck. Nothing fancy or special, simply a new, standard, production model.

So, I'm playing a pristine, white American Strat and out of the corner of my eye, I see this just put out on the floor, ash bodied Strat in natural with a tortoise pickguard, rosewood fingerboard and the vintage type bridge. It certainly intrigued me. Notwithstanding, I continued to play the exceptionally nice, white American Strat.

FWIW, I've been playing Strats pretty much exclusively in my over 40 years of playing and although the new American Fender stuff is truly outstanding, they have somewhat morphed away from what would be considered a "vintage" feel, neck wise. Needless to say, it's the "vintage" feel that I'm most used to. But I digress.

Back to the ash Strat: Curiosity got the best of me and I went over to check it out. I noticed it was a MIM but knowing that the necks and bodies come from America anyway, it didn't dissuade me. I eyeballed this guitar most critically for construction, etc, all the while comparing it shot for shot to the white one. The bottom line was that this ash one was just as impeccably made as it's American counterpart with a bit of a difference in the hardware which, did not seem better or worse than the other. So, I gave said ash Strat a test run.

I instantly bonded with the ash Strat. It was set up great, played great and sounded great. It also had that vintage feel to the neck that I've been used to for so long. I was then told that it was a limited run by Fender specifically for Guitar Center, verified by the "FSR" (Fender Special Run) sticker on the back of the headstock. On top of this, I was informed that they were Tex-Mex pickups.

Guess which guitar I bought?

I can tell you from personal experience and having a rather lengthy relationship with Fenders that the new MIMs are EQUAL to their American counterparts in terms of construction. I'll even go as far as saying that if it wasn't readily evident that the MIM guitars were in fact, made in Mexico, they could easily be accepted as simply another model in the American Strat line due to the differing but again, not necessarily inferior hardware and one fret less neck. Sure, I've heard, "better woods", more attention to detail, etc. on the American versions but again, with this new stuff, someone is really going to have to prove it to me.

Common sense dictates that there are duds in any production guitar's line but in the case of new Fenders, I've yet to personally see any.

Speaking for myself, I'd buy other MIM Strats with confidence and NEVER automatically presume them to be inferior instruments "across the board" simply because they are MIM and/or 1/3 the price of an American one. Sure, I've heard the adages, "You get what you pay for" and, "You buy cheap, you get cheap." Yet, I truly believe the new MIMs are exceptions to these axioms. As always, YMMV.

I want to add to what most of these players have been saying. I have 5 strats. 3 American. The first MIM I bought off Ebay, a 2006 Cream color- was white- that looked really good for this ridiculosly low price so I went for it. I can't put this thing down. As stated before in other posts the construction was flawless, the neck has this beautiful flaming from headstock to bottom of neck, and what a sound. Maybe someone else can verify this but the pickups in this thing are better than anything in my American Strats. I don't know if I got lucky with some nice tightly wound pickups or this is standand in the MIM in 2006. Most of all and you all know what I'm talking about, this guitar is fun to play. I had every intention of selling this thing and making a few bucks but I quickly changed my mind about that. 8)

Hi:

I played guitar casually for about 3 years in the late 70s/early 80s. However, due to life happening (marriage, kids, job, etc.), my guitar playing was shelved. Over the 25+ years since I stopped playing, I gave all of my electric guitar equipment (an aqua Fender electric 12 with a rosewood neck, a Gibson L6S all maple, and a Vox combo amp) away to friends and family.

Well, I began 2008 with the resolution that I would once again begin playing the electric guitar. I went looking for a good, all-purpose (rock, metal, blues, country, & standards) guitar. My price limit was up to $1,000.

I researched & played several guitars in the price range before making my purchase. I played guitars ranging in price from $300 to about $900.

Finally, I settled on a brand new (made in 2007 judging by the serial #) MIM Deluxe Fat Strat (Artic white).

The look (70s style, with the large headstock), quality, sound, and playability of this fine instrument is absolutely astonishing to me.

My Strat was priced (on sale) at $499!, and it was light-years better than ANYTHING else I played in the under $1,000 range.

The stock pick-ups sound great (particularly the humbucker at the bridge), the guitar is always in tune (even after 'Iron Man' whammy bar action), and the action is excellent - straight from the factory!

This guitar is one of the best investments I've ever made.

I'm playing the Strat through a Line 6 Spider III 75 (I couldn't pass it up - on sale for $200!) and the combination is outstanding. I do not expect to ever need to upgrade from this guitar/amp combination.

In terms of modifications, I may have the already good action on the Strat's neck slightly lowered. But the adjustment would be so minor that it can wait until I have several more months of practice to knock the rust off of my technique.

In all seriousness, I did not expect to get an instrument of this quality for even $1,000!

At $~500 the MIM Deluxe Fat Strat is THE BEST guitar buy in the under $1,000 price range...PERIOD. I highly recommend this guitar.

Great work Fender! You have earned a customer for life!

Hope this helps.

-Ed

Eddie, you made a great point that I forgot to metion. The tremolo bar or Whammy Bar on the 2006 MIM Strat is the ONLY and I stress ONLY strat I own that I can use tremolo extensivly without the guitar going out of tune. This is something I never expected from a Strat without a locking nut or Floyd Rose system. Rock on. 8)
