I hope I am ok posting this here. I have a 60's Road Worn Strat that I am changing pups in this weekend. Having never done this, I have a couple of questions.

1- Is a 35w soldering iron too hot?

2- Should I replace the factory wires?
- If so, do you have recommendations?

Thank you all for your help.

1. No

2. I would say not unless they've been damaged in some way or otherwise show signs of wear and tear.

Good luck!

I use a Weller 25 watt iron with a pencil tip for soldering wires to the switch, pot lugs, capacitors, etc. I use a 40 watt Weller iron with a flat chisel tip to solder ground wires to the back of the pots and trem claw. Works great.

I replaced all of my wiring because I also replaced the switch, pots, caps, pups, and output jack with higher quality components.
