In lieu of buying a new VG strat, does anyone have an easy/quick technique for drop tuning? I've looked for an effects pedal that could do this, but haven't found anything suitable yet. I COULD buy another strat and keep it permanently drop-tuned, I suppose, but I'm really hoping that there is something that I could do with my main axe other than re-tuning it every time I want to drop tune to Eb or D.

my intent is to drop tune all six strings for certain songs and then go back to the original tuning quickly when i need to. maybe not such a big deal to get out the tuner every time i want to do this, but i'm just wondering if there's something (method or device) that i'm unaware of that could be quicker.

Sounds like you might need one of these, it let's you drop your E to D. I'm thinking about getting one myself.

i've checked out a couple of pedals w/ so-called "pitch shift". does the digitech color the sound of the guitar? that's the main problem i've seen so far and i'm looking to simply drop the tuning w/ no change to the tone that i've already got on my strat.

Brother this is a PERFECT justification to buy another Strat!
You have got to have one ready and drop tuned for specific songs.
Don't hesitate, just tell the ol' lady ya gotta do it and start shopping.

LMAO!! that's exactly what my brother advised, too. don't think i'm not thinking real hard about doing that. i guess i'm trying to be a nice guy at home and exhaust all possibilities first. and to be honest, i've been curious about how other guys have handled a situation where you're switching to a song in, say, the key of Eb, etc., without a complete re-tune of your guitar. thanks for the thoughts and suggestions, guys.

You know, you can play a song in Eb in standard tuning. Anyway, I keep one guitar tuned standard, one in DADGAD and another in Open G.
