I've always wondered what the difference between the two were, or whether they were synonymous with each other. Is two tone black to yellow, and tobacco brown to yellow?

Two tone and tobacco are two completely different finishes.
Two tone is, like you said, somewhat black to yellow.
Tobacco is like a dark brown/red faded to orangish/yellow.
I have a tobacco sunburst American deluxe and it is beautifal.

(these arn't my pics)

here is a two tone:

and here is a tobacco:

you can also see my tobacco in my sig but the finish is hard to see in depth.

hope this helps 8)

I'd argue that 2tsb is infact the classiest colour on a strat:

Just an example. This is the Eric Johnson signature off the products page.

I dunno. I always thought 2TSB looked pretty good......

And apparently so did Leo, Bill, Freddy, Don, and Forrest since it was the very first factory finish applied to a Stratocaster.

it's one thing not to like the color, everyone is entitled to
their opinion.
However, it seems alittle uncool to judge intelligence
off of a color choice.
It was general and not aimed at anyone, but I took a little
offense.

Doesnt the second one look like a Sienna Burst?

And I also like that 2 tone better.

I agree, that second one is what I have always heard people refer to as Sienna burst... I think of Tobacco burst as being more like the burst on Duane Allman's Les Paul, darker than a cherry burst, more of a brown burst... I believe a Tobacco leaf is more of a yellow to brown without red, thus the name...but I ain't Bull Durham....

Is tobacco burst a original Fender colour? I thought it was a Gibson thing. The Fender colour is 3 tone sunburst isn't it? (really not my thing at all, sorry)

Anyway here's my vote.

Glad to know I'm a idiot and have the social skills to prove it :P

I think those pics are kinda bright. The tabacco sunburst is has darker edges and so does the sienna burst.

Also, it's difficult to tell the diff between 2 and 3 tone sunburst from photos. You really have to see them in person.

And lastly, both 2 and 3 tones just add a classic look to the guitar. 2 tones just happen to have an older look to them. Then again maybe I'm just an idiot that doesn't know any better. lol.

Not to argue or disagree with someone who has been so helpful to me on this forum, but....isn't that a 3 tone sunburst?

It looks like there is a 3rd shade between the burst and the black edges.
