Hi all - waited for a few months but finally got my 2010 AmDeluxe HSS in Amber with Maple Neck. Gotta say - I was a little nervous buying sight unseen (and unplayed) but she's a beauty and plays great. I'm back to playing guitar after a 30year dry spell - it feels good to be back at it!

I got the guitar with some strings other than the Super Bullets that were supposed to be in it - had strings with different colored balls at the end. I was worried that the guitar wouldn't stay in tune without SPs but it stays in tune fine - even with LOTS of whammy use!!

One thing about the whammy - it appears a bit sloppy or loose. Not worried about the way the arm easily swings around - I feel a little bit of sloppiness when I go to lightly use the trem. I hope I am describing it clearly enough. Can anything be done to tighten this up? This is the only thing I have to 'complain' about - other than that the guitar is great!

Thanks for any help you can give a newbie!!

Jim

Hi. Welcome. There is a small setscrew on the trem block that can be tightened to reduce trem arm slop. You can only see the screw when you put the arm in and do a dive bomb.

I hope I described it clearly enough. Sorry I can't find a pic on the net and I don't own an Am Dlx.

Note: traditional screw in trem arms use a little spring in the bottom of the hole instead of a screw on the side to provide resistance.

Hi jstrat2k10,

Is the arm "snapped in" completely? Most Fender trem arms that I've tried are a little sloppy in the hole. I have not owned a Deluxe, though I imagine that they wouldn't be real tight being a drop-in or snap-in type. You can replace the block with a Callaham, they have no slop at all in the trem arms. Of course, with the Calaham, you can't use your original trem arm.

Edit:
Just saw your post metropolis74. I thought that there was a nut or some other adjustment for that, like on my Floyd Rose, but I couldn't find any info on it. :?

Yes arm is snapped in completely - and did locate the set screw - thanks. I did try tightening the set-screw - seemed to slightly tighten the bar from rotating but it is still a bit sloppy when I go to use the trem.
I'd like to include pics to show her off a bit :D but I don't know how. Is there a way to attach pics to a post?? :?

Thanks for the help!

Jim

Your pictures must be on a publicly viewable site like PhotoBucket, (it's free). PhotoBucket will have an "img" code for each picture, that will look something like this (inside the code box),

Code:

You can copy this code and paste it in your post and the picture will show like this,

Thanks! I am a bit concerned with the small vertical lines through the body. Anybody know if this is just a cosmetic thing or something more I need to address?

One more question about avatars - sorry for off topic - but looking to put an avatar pic below my username but couldn't find out how to download one. Can anyone lend a hand? Thanks in advance.

F@(k!!! That is beautiful, terrific wood grain. I see that it has the S1 and a push-button like the MIM Deluxe Players. Maybe I haven't been paying attention, but is the small push-button a new feature?

Nice!

I installed the deluxe trem/bridge set up in my AM standard and had the same issue at first. Just keep tightening the two set screws until you get the stiffness you want -- I love it now!

Thanks for the comments!

shimmilou: the white button when pushed in selects the bridge humbucker by itself with no intervening volume or tone controls so that it is straight to the output jack - no matter what the 5 way or S1 push switches are set to. This adds a bit of volume supposedly for leads to cut through.

You can see the small vertical lines on the front of the body on the left side of the bridge - they do not appear to be part of the grain. I was curious if this is something I should be worried about.
If it is only cosmetic then I ok with it.

They ARE part of the grain, nothing to be concerned about. Quite the opposite, it's a reason for pride, it's a nice touch to the wood grain. You're lucky to have these unique lines in the grain, very beautiful. It is part of the character of your Strat that makes it like no other one. There is a story in that grain, something happened to the tree to make it like that. I really like features like that. :)
