I have a '91 (I think) Ultra. I bought it new. It has considerable sentimental value because of the circumstances occuring when I purchased it. My wife and I were newly married and living in a rental property in Massachsetts. The place got broken into and they took all my guitar gear, which I had collected over the prior 20 years or so. There was a nice older Strat and a Jackson stolen, along with an amp and a variety of other stuff. It was a terrible experience.

Anyway, despite no insurance and no real savings to speak of, my wife gave me a "stash" she had secretly put aside and told me to go out and buy a guitar. She knew how much playing meant to me. There were many better, more important things we could have done with the money, but she was adamant that I get the guitar. I came home with the Ultra, the guitar that called to me the most in the local shop.

I have made some money and collected a bunch of guitars since. I buy and sell guitars pretty liberally. Its fun to get a new guitar, so I reward myself once a year or so. However that Ultra will never get sold. It is insured and in a nice safe place, but it is still one of my favorite guitars to play.

Anybody else out there with an Ultra? i know they aren't real common. Mine is a nice sunburst with a figured maple top and rosewood neck. It has the Wilkinson nut and the Tremsetter. The pups are the Lace Sensors, and there is a split switch for the bridge pickup that was stock. The bridge pickup also has a center detent tone control. I put a pearl celluloid pickguard on it when I first got it, but I still have the original white 3 ply pickguard.

I'd just like to hear from other Ultra owners. How do you feel about the guitar? Mine is still one of the better playing and sounding Strats I have encountered. I really love that guitar for mant reasons.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Joe

Ultras are some of the finest strats which you can possibly get. Seriously some top-notch appointments on 'em. Forum user Xhefri will definitely be posting here soon, the man is an absolute authority on the subject.

I'm happy to hear how much you're enjoying your strat!

Best wishes

I have a few Strat Plus' and a Strat Plus Deluxe, but haven't gotten an Ultra yet.

The fretboard on them is Ebony, not rosewood. Great guitars.

Hey joe1871, What a story. How long ago was it that you had your guitar ripped off? Wish those losers could be brought to justice. Anyhow, the Ultra is one of my favor guitars as well as with many other people on the Forum.

Hey Xhefri

I just posted on your guestbook on your site. Fantastic page!
My guitars were stolen in 1993. I came home after a long day at work. My wife was in school full time and working nights, so the house was empty a lot. It was winter and when I opened the front door I was so surprised at how cold the house was. It was because the jackasses had smashed the slider window on the deck. It is a really terrible feeling of violation, but it also resulted in one of my fondest memories, so some good came out of it.

Jason - my bad. I knew that neck was ebony, but I had rosewood on the brain.

The only gripe I have about the Ultra is the knurled lockdown buttons on the tuning keys. They are not attached, as they are on current models. I have had a couple of on stage panic moments where I looked down and the knob was gone. I keep a bunch around as backup, but I can only find the brushed ones, not the chrome ones. Do you guys know where I can get the shiny chrome ones to match the Ultra?
