Tenesse Tuxedo looks amazing...

Great job and choice on parts, considering that a gigging guitar has to be reliable as well as versatile.

Five thumbs up ( I only have 4, had to borrow one)

I think you did well on the Gibson as I expected.
I'd be holding out for vintage parts you can take your time looking.

The Strat would have been a tough choice for me.

I picked up a 1991 Tele for $28 a while back. Sometimes you have to be in the right place at the right time.

Thanks guy's,

Yeah I gotta say Magna that I love the Tuxedo look and your right, the parts have to be the right choice for a working muso 8)

Thanks joaokorb yeah they are looking sweet hey... probably not as mint as when they first came out of the factorys :P

Shockwarrior, Mate yes I agree... I also thought that the Gibson LPC was going to be gig ready quicker and cheaper than the Strat.

I will think about looking for vintage parts, or just leave as is. I may strike it lucky for a 60's Strat in original spec next time.

Cool, a Tele for $28... :) That just shows there are bargains still to be found..

OK, Have I come out on top with both purchases including making them gig ready or have I bummed out :?:

I believe you did very well, had you paid the original asked price then I would have said that was foolish considering the state of both instruments.
But now you have two great looking and playing instruments for under $3,000.
The only criteria is really your own, if you had to beg borrow and steal to do this (figure of speech) then "NO" this was not a viable purchase and rehab.
Obviously that is not the case.
I would look into the vintage market price guide's ( really dislike thinking that anything from the 70's is considered vintage, I feel old :? ) all joking aside, I would believe that compared to those prices you have done very well.

Last year I really thought that a CS Deluxe in aged cherry with 69 pups was something that was viable, but the current lethargy in the high-end remodeling put anything like that on hold for a while.
Luckily I came across a 2001 CS 56 NOS for $1,800, I traded a black Am. Standard with D'imarzio's and a Larrivee 05 acoustic even to a shop. Monetary wise I broke even on the trade, but on the gig ready equation of an instrument I achieved what I needed.

Lately I've been searching for bargains as far as parts to rebuild 3 strats or stratopartscasters.
I have all parts needed for 2 strats and only need a neck and hardtail bridge for the third. Total cost= under $600 with neck and bridge will be about $800 to $900 tops. I'm doing all the refinishing myself.

So it is still very possible to find great instrument bargains if the thought of rebuild is only figuring out what the end result should be..

There is no way I'd buy that strat! Too many hacker mod's done to that strat. I can find one that works perfectly fine that is in original condition for around $1,000 US. That strat has a body route, neck route, odd bridge pickup placement. Any time you swap out original parts, you just lost some value to the guitar.

What you got both of those guitars and what you spent to get them setup right, what a steal they ended up being. Two gig worth guitars. The strat is ready to go, but the Les Paul might need something. One thing I would do is lightly sand down the back of the neck of the LP a little because its got too much wear in some spots and not enough in others...

Just a quick update that I am fully gigging with both of my 70's era Strat 1976 and Norlin LP 1973! to put it simply..the $ was not a lot to spend to get these ol girls up to gig speed and have other musos after gig's just melt over them.

I do not ever regret purchasing them.

Cheers.

Hey KK!

It's hard to tell for sure from the pictures, but that Strat of yours looks like it could be a one-piece body.

Can you see any seams?

Let us know!

Man you must have a very understandable lady. I get no allowance for loans when it comes to Guitars. We just got a €23,000 loan for home improvements to satiate my wife's pathological obsession with house improvements, and it looks like we'll still have €7,500 left after everything is done. I have a Gibson ES-335 that cost me €2600 in March that I pay €100 a month off. When I suggested using some of the excess cash to pay some money off the Gibson, I was sent running for cover with pieces of furniture and kitchen utensils flying in my wake.

Hi all people! :)

to kineman karma

Nice story man!
found this story through a search engine.
I have the same situation.

really wanted to buy an old strata, but had no money to buy original instrument without the intrusion of playful hands

I bought a fender stratotsaster CBS in 1979, but not in the original condition
previously installed Floyd Rose tremolo system and you can see her wounds on the neck. Holes are somehow smeared asshooooole master curve attached nut.

Image

Image

The guitar was lacquered several times, and the first time in a metallic blue color. buuueeee. )))
is the same as it was necessary to hate the standard equipment that would be so fun of guitar? faaacking 80s and metal)))) facepalm

Image

She took off with a Floyd Rose and cleared the deck of the old paint and repainted in red. She remembered the band Iron Maiden. Stupidly. It's not worth it.

Image

When the guitar fell into my hands, I threw out her hambakker, all sorts of toys, and soldered everything under the scheme in 1978. Family stayed 2 singles that sound a little dull, giving their time.

Image

Image

Image

Image

In the bridge I put the Fender Stratocaster pitskups 57-62. Perhaps it was necessary to put all three of the same single, but decided to hear the rest home pickups.
On the neck harder he killed. Faking frets, which grated carrots =) Anchor has decided not to touch it, not even a bullet native (do not know how to find it in our faaacking country =)

Image

Image

Neck at the junction with the body reeling as he pleases, for whatever reason, do not know. may have to replace the fixing screws and screw (people who have had the same problem?).

guitar loses system, on the other tuners. sense was a little back home. well as missed machines graphite saddles and saddle, too, put new strings. things have improved, but not by much. native shaller splitting still ubilis over time, and may have to change them for the same.

Image

My plan ... back to the tree paint, paint primer, and blow out with clear varnish (natural color).
Tear out the frets, sand cover, and score new frets. Faking throw nut and put the new one, with normal saw cuts under the strings. But that would be an anchor - I do not even know. I will try to find the bullet, but how does it behave'll never know.

Image
with my friend Gendos drink Russian vodka in the studio. wash guitar =)))

Here is the story. I am sorry for my broken French. =)))
google translater rules!

Hello from the cold of Kiev, the Ukrainian and birches! )))
