Nice, Nice, Very Nice...!!

Have you obtained a replacement bridge yet?

If not check this website out www.partsisparts.net
They ship worldwide and are licensed by fender.
They have direct replacement parts with Fender logo's stamped on the parts.

Thanks Tyronne, yes brother, proud I really am.

Hey Magnatone I have been thinking about the bridge scenario.

It was obviously a players guitar prior to me getting it and it will continue to be so, but now with me.

Yes the frets are low but they still allow me to pull the notes I need to make her sing until I get a refret done. This is on the things to do list.

I have this baby up and running now, I did a rehearsal the other night and the boys just melted with awe at her beauty, believe it or not the 76 Strat actually made me produce some magic that I was impressed with.

Ok the bridge, I have decided to go with a Fender Two Point Tremolo System that are on the current American Standard Strats.

I am thinking that once I get one, I am keen on putting 1976 period orrect Saddles on the Two Point Tremolo. Provided they fit correctly.
Any advice on if those saddles will fit or not would be great.

Will 1976 bridge saddles fit onto the current two point trem system???.

If not I am happy just to put a Current AM Standard Strat Two Point Trem with the vintage Fender Stamped Saddles on my 76 Strat.

Hi kk: that is a very inspiring cleanup job! Kudos to you on that. The new
bullet looks so much better than the chopped off rod adjuster too.

Personally, I'm now just itching to get to grips with those unsightly screw
holes. Several approaches to that. On this thread Xhefri has been doing an
excellent job of filling unwanted screw holes by the filler method:

http://www.fender.com/community/forums/ ... 9&start=15

Having packed the holes with filler he then tinted it with maple wood stain
and topped each one with a dot of lacquer which he then knocked back flat
and buffed into the rest of the finish. This is the best you will ever see that
method of hole filling done:

Image

And just to give you some options to think about, I use a different
approach. Here was a hole in which a tuner screw broke off beneath the
surface:

Image

Having drilled out that broken screw I then had to fill the hole and make
good before redrilling for the new screw. I filled the hole using very hard
setting Milliput putty (Google for details), but stopped and levelled it about
0.5 mm below the surface of the wood. Then I cut out circles of maple
veneer using a leather punch - the sort of thing you use for making new
holes in belts and such; available very cheaply from any tool shop. Drop
in a well fitting maple disc and sand it smooth the wood:

Image

You will never find a bit of veneer that exactly matches the grain of the
neck wood, so instead you choose a section that has no distinct grain
markings at all. Then you paint on new grain lines to match the wood
around using artist's acrylic paint and tiny sable brushes:

Image

Then touch it up with lacquer, leave to harden and knock it back flat to the
surface of the surounding peghead, just as Xhefri did.

Nothing you do will produce an absolutely invisible mend. But you can get
quite close if you are careful.

Have a go, why not?

Good luck - C

I don't believe the 2 point system is compatible with the 76 6 screw set up.
I believe you will have to redrill or/and rerout the trem bridge cavity.
I would not do it, got to that site I listed in my last post
www.partsisparts.net
They have the correct drop in trem with bent steel Fender saddles.

There's nothing like a gorgeous rebuilt strat for musical innovations.
It puts you in such a great frame of mind.

I'm in the process of rebuilding 3 guitars.

(1) An old J B player strat clone, just got an old Fender strat body with trem, pickguard, pups for $150. I have not decided the layout yet (a) ssh carvin pups with SI and TBX or fender vintage pups with SI and TBX tone.

(2) Stripping a Squier P Bass, will be refinished and converted to a P and J pickups and thru body bridge and top of the line hardware and pups.

(3) A no name plank guitar with incredible rail humbuckers. Also being refinished but will be rebuilt with original equipment.
This one has always been my experimental one as far as inlays on the finger board

That should cover the next few weeks.

Hi Ceri, Mate thank you for your kind words. Yes I was very gentle and slow about the cleaning process.

Hey Xhefri is damn good at filling them holes, I don't think I am very good at wood work... I might get a Luthier to them properly.
Sculpturing is a big fail for me. Give me nut & buts to loosen and tighten anyday. :P

For now I have dropped off the Strat to an authorised Fender fret repair joint in my home town.

I have been quoted $560 aud for original spec fretwire replacement, Graphtech Nut insert, fitting of a 2009 American Standard 2 Point Tremolo System.

OMG, I think once this baby is complete it will be my #1 go to Strat over my 2009 American Deluxe Strat.

I am setting up the 76 Strat at the moment to be a players guitar that is user friendly for me, going back to a Fender Trem it will appear more Fender Visual than the kahler...

I will get my whole lotta "Rosie" back in approximately 3 weeks.

I will post detailed pics of the work.

Cheers Everyone.

Buy the Gibson. the Gibson will always be worth more and both are so highly modified that the value is brought down on both of them. the bridges on both are not original and neither are the pick-ups. I have always been a Fender Stratocaster fan but in this case I would get the Gibson Les Paul or buy a brand new Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster.

Ok, So my 76 Strat is away at the shop being refretted at the moment.

For now here are some pic's of the reason which led me to buyng the 76 Strat and the Gibson LP custom.

Here is the Squier Strat that I originally went to purchase a set of strings for to donate to my friends quiz night to raise money for him.
He is suffering his 3rd bout with cancer.

I finally put this thing all back together.. I will be dropping it off tomorrow.

I hope they raise a few bucks for it. It's only a Squier but I'm sure it will catch someones eye and wallet. :)

You're a good friend to do that!

It looks very nice and should draw a few $$.

Hope it does and he recovers quickly.

Kineman - Nice clean up! Great job so far on the rehab of that fine lady! I love the fact that it is a player and not just a showpiece! Play that thing until it starts coming apart in another 35 years!! Well done! She looks like she has mojo oozing from every pore - including those extra mod holes on the headstock - they're part of her legacy. Not something I would have done to her, but it happened and now you are lucky enough to have her - scars and all. :D

A well set up Squier is better than a standard strat in poor playing condition.

It's ironic but if we were to take all of the identifying names or/and numbers of an MIM, MIA, MIJ and Squier's, I doubt if any but a handfull of people could tell the difference and which body and neck was what.

A nice guitar is a nice guitar..

I see your point as I have / had Squiers, MIMs, MIJs etc....

but at the same time, I'de take a Ferrari 308 with four flat tires and ripped seats over a brand new factory fresh Toyota Corolla

I so agree with what 53magnatone is saying here:

Ah, but there's an interesting comparison here. I saw a TV show where they put an E-Type Jag and an Aston-Martin from the 1960s against a modern Honda Accord straight out the factory. The Honda beat the pants off the two sports cars with ease.

I have a strong suspicion that a modern Classic Vibe Squier or Mexican Standard is on average a better instrument in any measurable way than the equivalent factory finished Strat from several decades ago.

The bar has simply gone up and up.

Hee-hee - I bet that is going to be sheer sacrilege to some of the vintage purists! I'm getting ready to be shot down...

Cheers - C
