I would definitely get to work on changing that nut to bone and I whole heartedly agree with whoever it was that said to get rid of the Kahler, fill the holes and make it a 6 hole. Man, just cleaned up that is looking really nice.

 How do you think I feel seeing it form before my very eyes...

It is a first time experience for me to Fire up an old car with new spark plugs, of a guitar scenario of course..

Absolutely amazing feeling playing and hearing her for the first time.

Whilst cleaning her I was thinking of all of the memories of the grime I was washing away... hmmm interesting thought at that moment.

G'day Mully, Mate yeah like I was saying.

I will use her in my up coming gig's to buy a truss rod bullet, Period correct fully loaded Pickguard, Period Correct Bridge/Saddles..

Once I slowly rebuild her... the rest is history.

She looks lovely now hey.... :P

Whilst I would be absolutely desperate to lose the brass nut and get rid of the kahler too. I think your next logical step is to get the fretwork sorted out. Otherwise you'll replace the nut, end up getting the fretwork done anyway, and have to replace the nut again.

Not enough metal there for a level and crown to sort out. Considering the obvious state of play of the instrument, I don't think you'll get away with a partial refret either.

I'd get the frets squared away real soon if the budget allows.
She does clean up nicely though. Congrats!

Can I please ask- I may not be the most knowlegeable 70's strat expert, but I donot see a "Made in USA" on the headstock nor the usual looking bullet...

For what it's worth mate- you got an absolute bargain here mate :) The strat is worth NZD$1200 for a quick sale and the paul is worth NZD$2000 for the same reason.

Congratulations mate, well done :)

I'm pretty certain that 1970s Strats didn't say "Made in USA" on the headstock until they reworked the decal to include the serial number in 1976. Also it appears the full bullet had to be removed in order to fit the Kahler string lock properly.

I have it booked in for replacement of the brass nut to a black nut whilst they are doing a refret job with 6105 fret wire, it will all be complete in 3 weeks time.

I am going to try and change out that kahler bridge asap, it is a nightmare to work with trying to get the intonation correct.

Thanks Blertles, yeah I am very lucky and very happy to pick up these two ladys.... Thanks Mate.

Anyway, here is a couple of pics of the headstock with it's new Genuine Fender Truss Rod Bullet.

Thank you very much mate.

It's a pitty that the mint green pickguard and the aged white pup covers, knobs and switch tips don't show up on the photo's.

Thanks.

Nice, Nice, Very Nice...!!

Have you obtained a replacement bridge yet?

If not check this website out www.partsisparts.net
They ship worldwide and are licensed by fender.
They have direct replacement parts with Fender logo's stamped on the parts.
