So i cannot get this weird reverb on my strat to go away, ive slienced the classic strat tremolo sound and dont just about everything i know. The sound is on the low e string, and maybe others, i cannot tell, mainly it is when playing an e or the 12th e harmonic, but it also happens on the higher frets as well (past 12). any ideas? thank you for the help

Have you checked to see if it's truss rod rattle, or possibly pickup that's adjusted too high?

Hi GRC555,

Is the sound from your amp, or just the Strat by itself? :)

ive taken it in and had it checked twice by a good guitar store here in memphis, the guy said the first time the truss rod was loose, he tightened it, no fix, the second time he said he tightened a nut connected to the tremolo cavity in the back. The pickups are not high and honestly i cant tell if i can hear it unplugged or not, its just too quiet. ill try again though.

Could it be the trem springs? Maybe put a piece of tape temporarily across all of the trem springs to see if that is it. It could also be something loose on the guitar somewhere. Maybe take it back to your tech, third time is a charm. :)

If it happens to be the springs, you can try this marerial:

I like the spring sound on my strat, but I have another guitar where it was not wanted. I put a small block of this material in the end of each spring (just about and inch and a half) and it completely removed the vibration like magic.

I also think that this is what the he is hearing. No offense but that stuff looks expensive! I have used foam weatherstripping (from Home Depot) with a sticky back on strats that have too much spring noise. This will deaden the springs completely. I should probably do it to all my strats!

Simple fix if it's the trem springs, and it won't cost you much. Go to a place that sells fish and fish tanks. You can buy some rubber tubing that you use for air lines into a fish tank. Take a trem spring with you. Check out the rubber tubing and find one that will fit inside of the trem spring. Buy it, just a few bucks, take it home, cut it it to length and put one inside each spring. Cleans that reverb right up. Here is a link to a YouTube video showing the process. I've done it to all my guitars and couldn't be happier.

Take it to Guitar Center and ask for Adam Luchessi. He can fix it. He's one of the best. Yes Guitar Center in Memphis.
