Hey guys, first time poster here. (in the UK)

I own a left handed Mim strat (2009 model), however the high E string machine head is faulty and has come off, i've now noticed the B string is quite lose and jitters about abit, i've tried tightening it but it's still the same.

So i'm in the market for a complete new set (staggered tuners needed), however the search is a bit of a problem as i can't seem to find any for a reasonable price (some guy try to sell me 3 american staggered machineheads for £80!) or the ones that i want.

So i would appreciate ANY help anyone could give me, again to highlight i am looking for a set of (preferably) Fender STAGGERED machineheads in a complete set, ideally brand new but i'm not overly fussed. Or perhaps any other recomendations? I'd prefer not to start drilling holes into the headstock which is why i am adament on having staggered tuners.

Thanks in advance

EDIT: I've found these on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fender-Standard-S ... 563d32cab6

The price seems ridiculously cheap which makes me a bit suspicous :D

Thanks for the welcome!

Staggered because that's what the guitar came with, as far as i know most other machineheads/tuners require screws which won't fit my headstock without alterations? Correct me if i'm mistaken!

How are the Wilkinsons copies?

I use a set of lefthanded Wilkinson staggered height self locking tuners on my favourite strat. I bought em from them for £22 about two years ago.

I see they aren't listed. It's always worth giving em a call. They didn't have the Clapton Midboost listed for a while. I rang em and got one.

Hi M-G:

Specifically what you want are Schaller M6 back-locking six-on-a-side mini-machineheads. Phew - quite a mouthful!

First, I'd give Tony at Axesrus (Nick's link above) a ring or email and ask if he can supply these. He may be able to source them even if he's not showing them on his website.

Second, if not: for some reason Schaller's distrubution is quirky and I believe currently their only official distributor in the UK is Touchstone. Here is their idiosyncratic and tiresome to use website:

http://www.touchstonetonewoods.co.uk/ttwp33.html

Again, if they aren't currently stocking exactly your prefered choice they can order it, being the official distributor.

Third, if you continue to have problems you could contact Schaller direct from their website:

http://schaller-electronic.com/auctores ... e894XY1eab

I don't remember the gentleman's name but I've been told in the past that people have found themselves dealing direct with the company's CEO and that he is very helpful over stuff like this.

Fourth, you can also source Schaller tuners from Thomann in Germany:

http://www.thomann.de/gb/index.html

Fifth, for some bizarre reason Schaller parts can sometimes be cost effective when ordered from the States, even though they are an ocean further from Germany that we are. Stewart-MacDonald are their official distributor over there. Nowadays they offer international surface mail as well as next day DHL, so if you are not in a hurry you can keep the shipping cost down that way. Be aware, you may have to pay VAT on import, though our duty free allowance recently went way up, so the cost of import is now less than it used to be. Again, as an official distributor they can order left-handed parts even if not shown on their site:

http://www.stewmac.com/?PCR=1%3A100%3A1 ... rrencyid=3

Sixth, I don't think you need to be so nervous of drilling screw/pilot holes. If not you could also think about staggered/locking tuners by Sperzel or Gotoh, available here in the UK from WD Music:

http://www.wdmusic.co.uk/category/Hardw ... ?limit=200

Wilkinson also makes some good stuff if you look to his premium lines.

Seventh and last, where are you (roughly)? I am in London and if you are within striking distance I am happy to help you fit any tuners of your choice if you are leary of drilling holes and such. I'm good at this stuff and my charge is a pint of (good) beer.

Any further forward?

Cheers - C

0037429000 is the part number your after. Fender sells them in sets of 6.
I highly recommend you replace the lot and then keep or use the old ones as spares.

Here is from the Fender Standard (Left handed) Strats part list
(you can find this in support/technical specs/wiring and parts diagrams)
0037429000 Tuning Key, 1 Set
0053107000 Bushing
0053106000 Washer

A UK site that sells them (looks like they have many stores)
http://pmtmanchester.co.uk/pmtonline/if ... ?k=contact

Singles on ebay in the US
http://cgi.ebay.com/360285277631

You should be able to call any Fender retail store and order them in by part number.

No probs. The offer holds good whenever, and there are others here that can speak up and assure you all is above board and OK, if needs be. In the past other Forum users have come to my wife's office in the Waterloo area to meet up over this sort of thing: seems to work fine.

If you want to take me up on it just start another thread here with my name in the title line and we'll go from there.

Good luck - C

Sorry to go back to these ones again, but can any of you confirm whether these are genuine? (Does it matter that they don't have Fender enscribed on them?) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fender-Standard-S ... 563d32cab6

I've also sent a number of emails to the various sites/links that you lot pointed me towards so hopefully i'll have some luck there also!

Oh God, mucho embaressment time :(

I've been refering to 'staggered' tuners and my general ignorance/lack of care has had me assuming that as well as tuners being at different heights, staggered also refers to the type of tuners than don't require screws :(

I think the correct name for this is Ping tuners? :(

I don't need staggered, i need the two pin tuners that have no screws! EUREKA!

Feel like a right twit now :S

Hi again: all of that is perfectly kosher - the seller is Forum user cvilleira's favorite shop if I'm not mistaken.

However, those are neither locking nor staggered. They are just the regular tuners you probably already have on your MIM Standard so it would be a straight replacement for your faulty tuner rather than an upgrade.

Adding in the international postage I suspect you'd do better to order those from an authorised Fender dealer at home rather than buy trans-Atlantic.

Cheers - C

Ah, M_G I see you have expert help at your side there already, Ceri and Nikininja on the UK team alone are a great source of knowledge - as you might have already noticed! :)

Tuners can be a real can of worms, can't they? There is so much variety. I sometimes think it's overload but what can you do. They're there, so let's have them!

Anyway good to see you're in expert hands and happy shopping!

BTW, Ceri can really drill some expert holes, you can build on that... check out this thread and this thread should you not believe me. 8) There are plenty of other fine build/restoration threads in this humble collection should you desire more of the good stuff! :)
Tip: Take a day off and a few bottles of beer when you set out to read those threads. Plenty of recommendations on beverages here: In praise of great beer - thread.. So, now that you have recieved your custom "Welcome Home Forum Package" please enjoy your stay here - it's a great place! 8)

Best -

-Nutter

@Ceri: You're right, i will almost certainly go for an upgrade (locking tuners) as apposed to just getting what i pretty much already had.
