That is strange that the tape could lift a decal through layers of paint, and unfortunate.
It was good that you had spares, and we will wait patently for your work to resume.

Just please keep us up to date, we really want to see it once it's done.

Nothing to do with guitars.... but on subject and I'll bet that you might like this.....your's truly flying R4922, a vintage Tiger Moth over Duxford in 2008 !

and Spitfire MkIa at the Imperial War Museum, flown by Noel Agazarian, 609 Squadron. One of those "raise the hair on the back of your neck" moments seeing her for the first time, having read about Noel through Richard Hillary's book "The Last Enemy" it was quite moving.

Glad to hear the decal issue has been fixed ! I love Maiden too but I'm nowhere near ready to tackle Harris' bass lines yet. I'm working one of his influences though....Mr. Pete Way

I'm chiming in late, but CONGRATULATIONS! I'm super impressed that you have the skill to get such a project off the ground. Furthermore, it warms my heart to see that other people still like Iron Maiden.

Oh man, I would LOVE to do that! SpitfireMkI, is that something you do as a qualified pilot, or was it just a nice day-out-treat type of thing? Can I sign up somewhere and go give it a try? Is there a website?

I've tried jumping out of light aircraft (good fun!). Now I need to try staying in them for the whole flight.

Did you loop-the-loop? :D

Ah, the Imperial War Museum. I know it well: two minutes walk from my wife's office, as it happens. A great place. Though it's Bedlam on a busy day (if you see what I mean... ).

Cheers - C

Yes ! you can fly without any qualies, I fly UAVs for a living and just dabble with the full-sized birds, no official license but I do have 20-25 hours in a variety of planes. Sadly, no aerobatics but that wasn't too important for me, just being over there and in a Tiggie was a moving experience. I did however do an aerobatic ride back in October in a Stearman near my home in Maryland. That was AWESOME, expensive and far too addictive for my budget ! Like guitars !

Yep, the crowds at the IWM were quite heavy but worth it !

Ah, you're from Maryland: I'd presumed you were local. What I was getting at is that the building the War Museum now occupies used in the 18th and early 19th centuries to be the Royal Bethlem Hospital (a contraction of Royal Bethlehem) for the wildly insane. Popularly known as "Bedlam" - which is where that word comes from.

Thank you for the Duxford link. I just gotta get me up in one of those babies! And I must have aerobatics too. ...Do they strap you in nice and tight?

Cheers man - C

Its together - and it ROCKS!!!

Still have some tweaking and intonation to do, but it already plays like a dream! I can't say enough about Warmoth or their awsome product. The neck and neck pocket are a rock solid fit, all I had to do was clean out some lacquer that built up over the sides, that being said: Patrick did an awesome job getting rid of 99% of the overspray and sanding down the pocket as much as he dared. Bravo. Initial impressions (I cant decide more to just stare at it or play it!) are the body is very resonant and it sustains like theres no tomorrow! I thought it might be on the heavy side but its surprisingly light and very balanced (it might be the lightest guitar I have and thats saying something as my Jackson is very light). And before someone asks, no I dont know how much it weighs, no scale for me. :D

Pics at night (its 2:00am here), so I tried some creative stuff until the morning and a proper cleaning.

Enjoy, more pics down the road!

The decals came out really well! In this shot I was trying to capture the light reflecting off the surface to illustrate that the decals can't be seen or felt in any way. I'm glad I took my time and waited to get it just right even though I wanted it just done weeks ago. Rock.

I know what you mean. I must have spent a good hour just staring at my Tone-caster once it was finished. Yours is very tasty to look at! Still, glad to hear its a player too. Rock on! :D

Enjoy it and thanks for sharing.

Andy

Ditto! Wonder if Eldred sees any of this stuff? I've never seen him comment.

Thanks alot everyone! It sure is nice just to have it done, you know?

More pics as promised - taken this morning in a cold, wintery Minnesota. The finish is so mirror-like that it really messed with my camera, I've literally deleted almost a hundred shots as even in natural sunlight and with a flash most of the pictures were too blurry due to all the reflections. A good problem to have, methinks! :) Some of the pics look redundant, but I posted the angles and colors that I thought represented the guitar the best.

Some miscellaneous notes: I'm glad I went with "F-spaced" pickups. Technically, when Dave installed his humbuckers back in the day, F-spaced pickups weren't around yet. But, now that everything is together the strings are perfectly centered on all the pole-pieces on both the neck and bridge pickups. Stainless steel frets. OMG! If you've never played on them you don't know what your missing!! I also LOVE the contoured heel. Its not as drastic as some contoured heels I seen and played on, but I love the way Warmoth does theirs, effortless access to the higher registers, very glad I ordered it. :)
