ORCRiST, first; congrats! There is nothing so respectable as seeing a
job through. I'm well aware that you've been having a longer, more
nail-biting wait than the rest of us - and I'm guessing you feel it was worth
it?

On the art work: big kudos to you for the design and fitting all the
elements together so well. And for those reading this as don't know would
you care to tell people some stuff about the painter? He also deserves
public credit.

More later as we see it all come together. For now there is something
missing we can immediately put right. We all know you can't have a build
thread on the Fender Forum without appropriate liquid sustenance. With
your particular WWII aerial interests several possibilities suggest
themselves, but I think one here stands out from the rest:

Don't think I can't off-topic the heck out of my own thread good Sir!

Hope he sees it!

Spectacular project!

I know about projects where the cash flies out the window ... I did a Warmoth doubleneck ...

Simply AMAZING build so far. I absolutely love all the components and can't wait to see the finished piece. I totally impressed with the way you tied all the aspects together, the body, the awesome neck plate, the decal, and the insane hardware made of unobtaninium! You sir have got some serious creativity. Thanks for sharing. 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

Germans? Where? Whatever you do, DON'T MENTION THE WAR!

Regarding that subject, I have to say: It is only fitting that Germany also be represented on the guitar as well... not only by the 'Iron Cross' kill markers but also due to the fact that Schaller is a German company that can be proud of the beautifully engineered parts that will be one of the centerpieces of this instrument.

The Luftwaffe was a feared and worthy adversary during and after fall of France and the Battle of Britain soon to follow.

Suffice to say, it is only fitting and proper that Eddie is indeed an Ace.

That is one of the best looking guitars I have ever seen! Two great artists! What talent. Schecter put out some military theme guitars a few years ago, but nothing this good. It's a work of art. So, is that fellow flying the plane an angel as I heard did some of the piloting during the Battle of Britain? :)

this would look cool, cut to fit. Dunno if it's a good material (metal) but the looks would work well.

(this is from a scooter I think)

In in this case a .90 black gloss/white/black pickguard will be a 'reflecting pool' of sorts mirroring the Ruthenium trem and humbucker mounting rings. Its a vintage 8-hole, with Delonge volume option, Floyd Rose cut, standard strat control layout.

While the paint may be anything but mild, I'm trying to keep the design and layout as much as Dave's "Kossoff" stratocaster (so named because Dave acquired the guitar from late 'Free' guitarist Paul Kossoff) as I can. So its getting a typical stratocaster pickguard like the just like the Kossoff has. My overall theme (besides the aesthetics) was to make a guitar worthy of Dave himself and one he could conceiveably pick up and be intimately familiar and comfortable with. Now, I'm not Daves tech, so we don't know exactly what the innards are currently, but anything I don't already know from other sources can be copied from his current signature Fender.

The Kossoff itself has been modified a bit over its life (now long retired from the road), the body is from a '63, the neck a '57. My neck's Fender logo is period-matched for a '57 neck, and the pickguard as mentioned gets the vintage 8-hole layout, so, no wild pickguard materials for this stratocaster.

All that being said, knowing in fact that it is My guitar in the end, I was allowed to make some consessions...and most of those are all in the neck. :)

See if you can find a black metal one, I think it would go nicely with the hardware.

Over at Greasy Grooves (I think that's where I saw it) there's a pickguard called "Battle Of Britan" and has a graphic of 3-4 bombers. It had a tan hue to it but maybe they'd make a custom black version with the H/S/H configuration.

Personally I don't think it'd look good on you guitar, I'd prefer a black metal one, but wanted to point out the option in case YOU liked it.

Now THAT is one great body, and an amazing neckplate!
Iron Maiden-one of my favorite bands, and Aces High, my second fav IM song. I really love the neckplate, think I should get one similar myself.
Great job!

There are quite a few custom makers out there if one spends some quality time with Google. :)
