You have absolutely got to be kidding!

I like relic's but you don't do it to a guitar like that, and even then not with a rotary sander. You stand up play the guitar, note where your body touches the guitar. Stick some light sandpaper to those area's of your body. Play standing again. See where the sandpaper has marked the body. Then hand sand, scrape with a craft knife blade, hit with a bike chain. Finaly darken with brown boot polish.
Not go at it with a rotary sander. Trust me mate I've relic'd a few guitars for people, less is definitely more.

Woah, woah woah.

I KEEEEED everyone, I KEEEED...

For the record, I HATE the whole 'relicing' concept. There's only one way to relic a guitar. ONE. The way Stevie Ray or Clapton did it. I think everything else is just ruining perfectly good instruments, but thats just me. If thats your thing, more power to ya - different strokes and all that... /shrug :)

Rest assured the Spit looks the same right now as the day I took the pictures. The fact you guys even kinda took me seriously is just proof everyone just needs to 'dial back' on the relicing... ;)

Absolutely Gorgeous guitar sir. I hope Dave Murray himself gets the honor and privilege of seeing that beaut. Well done!!! I'd love to hear you rip out some "Hallowed Be Thy Name" on that puppy.

best to you and your new axe... definately the "Strat Centerfold of the Year"

I'm queuing up the Maiden on my iTunes in Tribute.

Yes ! you can fly without any qualies, I fly UAVs for a living and just dabble with the full-sized birds, no official license but I do have 20-25 hours in a variety of planes. Sadly, no aerobatics but that wasn't too important for me, just being over there and in a Tiggie was a moving experience. I did however do an aerobatic ride back in October in a Stearman near my home in Maryland. That was AWESOME, expensive and far too addictive for my budget ! Like guitars !

Yep, the crowds at the IWM were quite heavy but worth it !

Crap, it sucks that the Fender forums here don't have a private email system.

I dunno if you'll see this SpitfireMkI, but I have a question about your 'day job'. Drop me a line at dreadberry2000 @ yahoo.com

Thanks!

I'm sitting here at the College and have just shown your project guitar to a colleague who immediately recognized the Supermarine theme and gives you high fives for this terrific effort and I heartily concur.
Doc.

Wow.

I am not a metal fan, but do like a bit of Iron Maiden every now and then, Ace's High being my favourite if I had to name one.

That said....

You have designed and built yourself one absolute stunner of a guitar there!!

It's a shame you didn't get it built by the Fender Custom Shop for one reason and one reason alone - that guitar is far better looking than most of the guitars that end up on their Calendar and that's the only way it could be on there..!!

Cheers!

Well, all they have to do is ask...

I'm sure there's a dollar amount they could pay me to pretend the FCS built it.

Of course, they could always give me a job too, then it could retroactively be made by the custom shop. :)

A little update...

I dunno how many of you all remember a TV show 'back in the day': Baa Baa Black Sheep?

If you're bored or interested, Google: Gregory "Pappy" Boyington.

I grew up on all those old WWII shows and movies, as did alot of us kids. Anyways, back in November when I finally finished
my guitar, I called Mr. Patrick Sims to tell him to take a look at the finished project on-line. We got to talking and he told
me he'd been inspired to do another WWII warbird scheme, this time of a Vought F4-U Corsair. He went all out on the 'rivets'
aspect. From his email:

"Eric,

Here's a sneak peak of the Corsair guitar I've been working on. Has over 500 brass rivets in it....hand drilled each hole
(took about 25 hours)...it's not completely finished, but getting close, just thought I'd send u a pic. I have invested
ALOT of time in it & need to sell it when it's finished, let me know if you know anyone who would be interested. Its a
1 piece alder body...cnc'd to exact Ibanez specs....riveted on sides & back as well.

Patrick"

Some fellow forumites showed me some WWII themed Schecters and other brands on my build thread when it
was on-going. One thing I noted was that (IMHO of course) peeps went waaay overboard on the rivets.
I mean dont get me wrong, rivets are found everywhere on warbirds, but the bodies I was seeing had faux
rivets like every 1/4 of an inch everywhere it seemed. Patricks look sweet for two reasons, 1. They're
real; 2. they're small. It gives a very nice illusion of realism paint by itself would be hard pressed to match!

Not a stratocaster, but... it doesnt need to be. Enjoy!

I hereby resurrect this thread! (Temporarily at least) :)

Through the Iron Maiden Fan Club and its forums, I've managed to get
in contact with Mr. Colin Price who is Dave Murray's guitar tech.

Colin tells me he'll try and show the project to Dave, but Iron Maiden is
currently on-tour so things are a bit hectic.

"Hello Eric,
Thanks for the email. I've actually been keeping an eye on the build for a while and did mention it to Dave in passing before a show.
I will have a look at the spec for you, but we are in the middle of the tour right now and its a bit busy as usual.
It does look amazing, and im sure it plays wonderfully. Just remember to do what Dave does...play the crap out it lol

Cheers
Colin"

Woo-hoo!
