Hi everybody. :D

I will try to ask more specifically:

I have this little problem. That is, I played some Classic and Classic Player strats at the local shop. The CP 60s TOTALLY did it for me tone-wise. You could almost say I´m sold, if not....

...if not I where a sucker for 70s headstocks. I know, I know - I should base my decision on tone rather than looks. And if it comes down to either-or, I will do so.

Still, just for the sake of not giving up too soon: do you people think that the ´69 Custom Single Coil is such a big part of the 60s tone, that it might be worth putting a set of them in a Classic 70s strat?

In other words, if I invest in those PUs, can I have both: the tone of the CP 60s and the looks of the C 70s?

Yes you can have both. Headstock shape will not affect tone. Put the '69s in the Classic 70's and you're good to go.

Thanks for the advice man, but IT´S TOO LATE - while the looks vs. tone discussion went on in my head, PRICE stepped in as a third factor and took the lead.

I just bought a barely played Sonic Blue CP 60s - the price was unbeatable. 350 USD. The guy partially sanded the finish off the neck, top and bottom region along the fingerboard, in an attempted but unfinished "relic job". (WTF?!)

So I guess I will have to get myself some mesh and laquer and see if it can be saved. If so, I promise to never ever complain that it doesn´t have that big headstock. And if not, I will get a new neck for it - 70s style. Win-win or what?

Yeah, you got a great deal on that Strat! And you saved it from the amatuer "relicer"
