I just picked up an American Standard Stratocaster and have some questions.

1.) 1st off, My trem arm seems to be trying to cross thread and i can not seem to get it in strait. Am i doing something wrong here? Is it supposed to be at and angle?

2.) Im alittle confused about my trem plate and pivot screws. I was reading the setup guide in the support section of the fender website, but it dosent really give an explanation for doing what it says to do. I ended up tightening the pivot screws down so that the front of the trem plate is flat, then tightened the spring screws in the cavity so that the back of the trem plate was flush as well. My question is, what do i lose or gain from doing this? It seems to play better in the lower registers now, but im wondering if using the trem bar will damage the body of the guitar since it is laying flush on the body.

3.) Another bridge question. I noticed now that my tremolo block (im not sure what its real name is, but the metal block that the strings are strung through in the back cavity of the guitar) is pulled very close to the spring screw side of the cavity. In other words it seems that the spring's are pulling to hard, but if i loosen them, the tremolo plate begins to lift off the guitar. So i was just wondering if this is normal, or if again, im doing something wrong.

4.) last question (for now) Can anyone suggest a really nice blues/vintage sounding pickup?

sorry for the HUGE post, but i have questions and need answears. thanks community.

Check out the Fender Texas Specials and the Custom Shop Custom '69 pickups.

The trem arm does go in at a slight angle.

The back of the trem plate is supposed to have about 1/8 inch gap between the body and the plate in order for the trem to operate properly.
I would suggest having it setup by a pro the first time. Ask if you can watch.

well, is the front of the trem plate supposted to be lifted off the body, or should it be flush? I guess i see what your saying about it being floating to work right, but is that back only, or front too?

Only the back of the plate should be 1/8 in. The plate has a sort of angle so that it won't dig into the body if you float the tremolo. If it seems like the springs are too tight, you could install two more to lower the tension. If you keep the bridge flush to the body, your guitar will sustain longer, among other things.

The very front underside of the trem plate is cut at an angle, the screws that hold it in place have no threads just under the tops so that the trem plate can move up and down on them.

Im using 9's and have 3 springs, so i doubt it needs more springs.
