As far as the type of finish goes, I am fine with acrylic.

Good: then what I'd do is just stroll down to my local automotive parts shop and ask for an aerosol of Candy Tangerine acrylic car paint. They'll look up the code and make it up to order. Or they'll put it in a tin to use with my spraygun if I prefer. And they can usually do it as nitrocellulose too.

Where I live all of that is also easy to achieve online. I've been having a bit of a search on US Google for you and I must admit I'm finding the American paint websites slightly confusing: I expect you just have to be familiar with how they do things. Take a look for yourself and ask them for advice if needs be.

Or, as you say, just go to your local bike/car body shop and ask them to do it for you. There is a strange scepticism amongst guitarists about having their guitars refinished by automotive guys, but I don't really know why. I guess someone somewhere had a bad experience once and the folklaw has spread. In fact though, automotive shop guys spend their whole day working with spray paint: no reason at all why they shouldn't do an excellent job for you. Just discuss it clearly first to make sure you're both on the same page with it.

Good luck! - C

So iv'e decided i'm just goign to get a local auto shop to paint it for me.

But, I still dont know what type of pickup to put in it.
What gibson pups do you recomend besides PAF's that give a not so overdriven/hot sound?

Im a couple of days late but Im sure somebody will step in should I be offering poor advice...

I reckon you would do well to find a PRS pickup for the Neck as In my experience of PRS they have a great sound no matter which body, wood, size they are fitted to :D

Any chance you could add an illustration of your plans on here? a quick doodle of the end result you hope to achieve :
That way people can offer you sound advice before you reach the obstacles :D

Best Wishes!

Hi Tanner, great thread so far!

When going for that soft, round, mellow jazzy sound it is basically unavoidable to put the pickup to the neck position. If you find a bassy & weak output for the bridge and roll off the highs on your tone pot, that might work for a workaround, but it won't make you happy if you're after a jazz sound. And to be honest, the wiring on the strat as is now reminds me of La Cabronita: No frills, just plain rock'n'roll!  ;)

Which guitarist/guitar's sound are you after? Maybe it would help us scout you the right PU and wiring ;-)

nice colour choice!

Well I would have no idea how to route the body for a neck pickup and since this is my first build i'm trying to keep it as simple as possible.

Jazz sounding aside i'm looking for a softer pickup.

My major influence in guitar are: Dave matthews, John Mayer, Eric Clapton, Led Zeppelin, Derek trucks and Jack johnson.
as you can see I have some what mix matched tastes but those are my favorite artists.

This pickup caught my eye, not really what I was looking for, but I dont have a p-90 and it would be something different:

Anybody want to share their thoughts on this pup?

Thanks!
