Hiya! nice thread!!

Xhefri,
Just for historical purposes, I can tell you that this model (American Std) definately was designed under Dan Smith's Marketing auspices and that George Blanda definately designed the bridge.
I happened to be Quality Coordinator (Whatever THAT title means!!!) when we first started producing Am. Std.s in Corona. I believe that I was there through November of 1986. My recollection is that the first American Standard Strats were routed "normally" and did not have the "Swimming pool"- "Universal" route on them. Obviously by your pics, they did get that particular routing sometime before June of 1987.
Thats it...just a side note.
Cheers!,
reob

Rob, do you know the neck profile on the 87 Standard? Thanks.

Sorry, I did not answer the question. This 87 has the same neck profile as the Strat Plus guitars that came out later that year. It is a modern C shape with 22 medium-jumbo frets with a radius of 9.50. When I play this guitar it feels just like any of my Strat Plus'. But then again, they can very a litle bit from guitar to guitar based on the finish work, I am guessing.

@ Rob Schwarz, Thanks for the info. I was told by someone that some of the first American Strats did have standard routing, but I really did not believe them because I have only seen the swimming pools use on them. But then the few i have owned were all around the middle of 1987. I did see the standard routes on the vintage reissue models that came rolling off the first production at the new plant. Now I have it from an expert that some before, June of 87, some of these DID have standard routing! Very interesting!!!

EDIT: I forgot to mention that I have another 87 American Standard Strat body that is Gun Metal Blue, same exact features as this Vintage White one. I was told it was a mid-87 body as well. I can't find a date in the neck socket but it does have the wood-screw type bridge posts.

Here is the finished product! I plugged this in to my old Fender Bassman amp and yes, it had that TX Special growl. Been a long time since I plugged in some TX Specials. Love the sound of the neck pickup especially. It has some bumps here and there, but that adds character to it. So what do you think?

An American Standard with Texas Specials on it is often called a "Roadhouse Strat". Fender did these hot-rodded Stratocaster models in 1997. They came with the Delta-Tone circuit which has been introduced that year and sported an aged white shell moto pickguard.

Image

Don't confuse the USA Roadhouse with the Deluxe "Roadhouse" MIMs, because they're totally different beasts in their own, even they sport the same pickups.

With the introduction of the American Series in 2001, the Roadhouse name was dropped and replaced by the more conventional term American Texas Special. Fender discontinued the hot-rodded american series in 2003.

Pictured guitars are not mine.
