Had some time to wire this 87 Strat up. I had an original 1987 pickguard that has nicely aged to a mild yellow look. Also i found some original 87 pots from an old Strat Plus I had. I replaced the Plus TBX with a standard pot (87 too) and used the American Standard wiring style. One thing I did not have was a set of original 87 pickups, so an old set of Custom Shop Texas Special pickups.

I put the pickguard assembly on the body. She looks nice. This body is not mint, but I feel the small bumps here and there add character to it.

More to come soon......

Here is the finished product! I plugged this in to my old Fender Bassman amp and yes, it had that TX Special growl. Been a long time since I plugged in some TX Specials. Love the sound of the neck pickup especially. It has some bumps here and there, but that adds character to it. So what do you think?

Interesting, interesting. I need to pick me up a set of those little dental tools. That could come in handy.

Nevin, yeppers, those dental tools have been a part of my life as a kid growing up. In the town were I was raised there were two dental tool companies and I had friends that worked at both. So my dad and I had a liberal amount of these to use and they ended up being really handy for some things. (that was years ago!) Then I was recently down to my last few tools, as they break if you reef on them too hard, and found out my wife's cousin works at one of these places today. Last time I saw him he gave me a handful! So back in stock!!!

Thought I would bump this thread as I have been getting people emailing about 87 American Strats and wondering if they were a Strat Plus knock off or made with Japanese parts! So I have been emailing them this link and thought it might be good to get t back into circulation. Think I will do the same with Mr. Cs thread too! :-)
