I am very soon to be the owner of a Ltd run CS deluxe strat.
The finish is nitro and i read somewhere that certian types of strap materials can react wtith nitro finishes. Cant find the article for referance. I like using a soft leather or brushed suede strap, mainly in black or tan.
Am i ok using this with a nitro finsh?

Cheers all.

Well if its a favourite strap then a piece of felt or soft material like it cut to size and stuck on that side of the strap would be a good comprimise surely? Dont know if they react or not but I've made a suggestion hopefully its helpful

Hi dc01: very seriously on that, Forum user tremolo arm got a nasty stain on the lacquer of his white nitro Strat from laying a suede backed strap across it inside his guitar case.

You'd be well advised to avoid that particular situation, now it has been brought to our attention.

I remember that thread Ceri. I would take the strap off when its in the case. But what about day to day use?
I read in Total Guitar magazine a while ago in the 'Ed shed' section that some straps and even some of the foam used on stands can react or damage a nitro finish after a period of time.

Hi again dc01: the stands thing is a well known issue. Few manufaturers claim their rubber is "nitro safe" even if they privately think it is, for fear of being wrong.

Two solutions: some people pop a bit of cloth such as an old sock over that rubber - though of course you need to be sure it doesn't have dye in it that will migrate into the nitro. The other is to use a neck grip stand, such as many of the Hercules ones. This, for example:

http://www.herculesstands.com/guitars/GS412B.html

Even with that one you need to make sure the bit that cushions the back is positioned to touch the plastic backplate, not the nitro body (so won't work with Les Pauls, etc). Also, if yours is a US Vintage Reissue it will have a nitro finished neck and Hercules don't claim that the rubber on the gripper is nitro safe so... same problem.

Keeping the guitar in the case is the only ultimate solution to this issue.

Regarding the strap whilst in use: really, it is barely touching the body, is it? Especially if you have locking strap buttons of one model or another. If you're still worried about that then ClassicRock's suggestion (above) about using a little bit of cloth to insulate where the strap might touch the bod seems a good one.

Though if we're really getting neurotic about it I have heard of people complaining the dye in their trousers or shirt front leached into the nitro. What's a fella to do? More nude guitar playing, I guess...

Yet another good reason for non-nitro finishes! :D

Cheers - C

Ah, the instant Brazilian, courtesy of those trem springs. Which of us has not suffered that at one time or another?

Forum user russianracehorse once posted a pic of himself playing his Strat in his bathrobe. There's a fella who learnt the hard way...

The spec is pretty standard really for a Cs dlx Strat. Slightly diff finish on neck and special order SSB body colour for this model. Only 25 in the uk this year ordered by PMT.
