So contrary to what I've read online, I used Fiebing's oil dye to ebonize my rosewood and I stained my white inlays. Tried eraser and wiping it off with a q-tip but to no avail! How can I get it off the inlays? I also got a smudge on the back of the neck in the one spot I didn't mask off (poly neck). What do I do? Thanks

Man, I don't know if lighter fluid would work or not.

Masking agents are like life insurance......

You can never have too much.

For the inlay stains, let the fretboard dry overnight then try removing the offending spots using a Q-tip lightly moistened with mild lacquer reducer.

Diluted ammonia may work on the back of the neck.

Yeah, I forgot to mention Q-tips. If you use lighter fluid don't let it get on your fingerboard.

If it were me, God love everyone on here, but I'd send a mail to Dan Erlewine. His email address is....

dan@danerlewine.com

If he doesn't have an answer for you then it can't be done.

Try to mask around the inlays and use naptha gas on a Q-Tip and that should disolve the dye.

DO NOT use lighter fluid, highly flammable ( needless to say).
I would contact either stewmac or LMI or go to a luthiers forum and research finishing techniques and remedies.

maybe a little light rubbing with fine (0000) steel wool will remove it

Yeah, especially if you're going to be using it over a BBQ pit.
