Hi all,

I've had my '99 Strat for about 8 years now (I bought it used).

Anyways, there is a serial number on the back that I've used to date the guitar and ensure that it was indeed made in Corona, CA.

Underneath the tuners, however, there is another sticker that I have never been able to identify. It is a long, clear, rectangular sticker and centered in black text it says: "215186" then directly below that it says "ASSBK".

Has anybody ever come across a sticker like this?

my totally uninformed guess is that it could be a parts serial number?

From where did you buy that guitar?

In the old days, there were plenty of shops that put their own stickers on the backs of guitars' headstocks.

I actually bought the guitar off of eBay around 2001-02.

I'm not exactly sure where the original owner got it from.

The original owner did say that he had some modifications done by the Fender Custom Shop. Would the sticker be something that the FCS would have put on?

I'll try to get a picture up at some point, which might help. It is a clear sticker that measure around 2.5"x.5" centered underneath the first four tuners (for E, A, D, G strings).

My understanding is that the Custom Shop does not modify factory guitars unless you are a famous rich rock star with your own signature model. So that story seems suspect to me.

That is interesting.

Might explain why there is a Seymour Duncan neck humbucker installed in the bridge position...I always thought the Custom Shop would know the difference between neck and bridge pickups.

Put there by the original owner. It's a groupie's phone number followed by her name
