Hi and welcome to the forum.

EDIT: Sorry, I posted all the info on the 2004 "50th Anniversary" Strats.

In 1994 for the 40th Anniversary there were was only a CS model that was a fancy take on a '54 Strat.

All American Standards made that year had a metal medallion added to the headstock that said "40th Anniversary Stratocaster". I don't remember if they also had something on the neck plate but they might have had some kind of anniversary logo as well.

I don't remember Fender doing anything on the MIM Strats back then, but they were just getting the MIM plant going in the early 1990s and I really only paid attention to the USA models back then.

Sorry for posting the wrong info; needed more caffine this morning.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

There is a lot of confusion over the 40th Anniversary of the Stratocaster. There were several special 40th Anniversary models back in 2004:

1. A Custom Shop masterbuilt '54 reissue

2. An American Deluxe with gold hardware and the "anniversary logo" on the pickguard - only with a maple fingerboard neck and 2-color burst finish (also special tweed case)

3. An American Series with special '54 pickups, ash body, only with maple fingerboard and 2-color burst body (also special tweed case)

4. An MIM Standard with a special gold finish

However, every non-reissue USA Strat also had a "40th Anniversary" logo on the neck plate, leading to the confusion.

I'm not sure about the MIM non-reissues; they might have had the aniversary logo plate as well. This one looks like the pickguard has been changed to a pearl guard; it could have other changes. It's hard to tell; could you put up some other photos?

Ooops!!!! You're describing the limited edition "50th Anniversary" Strats from 2004 celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Strat (1954-2004). The "40th Anniversary" of the Strat was in 1994.

Impossible to tell if this is even a genuine Fender without a pic of the headstock or other detailed pics. There should be a little "40th Anniversary" flag emblem on the face of the headstock. I would pass on it.

The bridge should be 2 post not 6 screw, and there should be 22 frets to be a special 40th Anniversary since they were based on the American Standard at the time. Check this link: http://stratcollector.com/inventory.html and scroll down to "1989 - Present, Fender Stratocasters" and see the four '94 40th Anniversary Strats for reference.

I think you'll find that is a Squier.

Look at the bridge.

Not conclusive proof, just my supposition based on the limited photo.

Yeah, the neck plate says "Fender 40 years and still rockin'" or something similar to that. It's been a while since I last saw one but I liked the neck plate. Sorry, neck plates are one of the small accessories that I really get into.

As for this one being a 40th, I've never seen one with a humbucker and a 6 screw trem, but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist or that whoever owned this one may have modified it. If it has been modified I surely wouldn't pay too much for it.

The picture sure shows a really beautiful guitar though. I really like that. I doubt it's a Squier. Something about this guitar makes me think it's a little higher quality than a Squier.

Why in the name of satans fetid underwear would you put generic far eastern saddles on a 40th anniversary guitar? Even the MIJ/MIK strats didn't use em. Though they were probably made across the street.
