So would my multimeter give me different resistance values at different points along the resistance band?
If so I suppose I could use that to find exactly where the hump is to more accurately smooth it. Couldn't I?

Thankyou so much for the tip on making no load pots. I see perfectly how it works. The bare area acts as a kind of short across the terminals when the slider hits it. You wouldn't believe how often I'm asked to give people delta tone controls. Something I myself find to be harsh sounding. More so than not having the control there, on my Deluxe.
I'll have to see if this responds any better.

Definitely. And yes to your second question but you have to be extremely careful because if you go even the slightest fraction off course, you'll be solving one problem and creating another.

Glad to share about the no-load pots. You are correct in your assessment, there is no resistance. To tell the truth, I don't like no-load pots either. I'd much rather be able to go from '9' to '10' rather than being forced to go from '9' to like, "14" and vice-versa. I'm in complete agreement with you too where I'd rather not have a control there at all under this circumstance. Yet, as we both know, they are indeed, extremely popular.

One more thing: I showed a disassembled pot and how to make the no-load on the band. If you have good lighting, a good angle and a good scraping instrument, you don't necessarily have to disassemble the pot to remove that portion of the band. Just ensure that the stuff you scrape off doesn't fall into the pot.

hey Niki, I have heard of Delta tone controls before but never knew what they were. Can you give me some details?

Where was I for the purchase of the body? Do you need tuners or anything Martian? Have you got a neck? DOH! Wish I was here to help :). Now I just get to watch the glorious glorious outcome :P

Just what I was thinking.

I can't wait to see what develops.

Good luck.

It seems they just did. The Delta tone circuit is said to take tone pot completely out of the bridge pickup circuit when rotated fully counterclockwise, though some would argue that it is really not completely out.

Fender used to use the term "Delta Tone" to refer to the entire system: the hotter bridge pickup, no-load tone, etc ...

I'll make a no-load/Delta tone pot and send it with the fuzz.

It's that simple, I could knock out a couple of hundred a day. Put another £1.50 on the price and make a bundle.
A quick look at Twenga shows em going for £5 a throw.

Anyhow I gotta go have some fun with my multimeter and some old junky pots.

It's a given that I'll make a mistake. I'll use it in a oscillator circuit.

Dan,

A set of locking tuners should be on their way. Truth be told, I'm not sure where the neck is coming from.

Are you still awaiting certain parts or do you have everything
that you want at this point, Martian?

I'm pretty sure that a neck is on the way. I know that a good man had offered it. We'll have to do a check on it.

update: seems like the neck I was thinking about may not happen so if anyone can donate one it would be great. Wish I had one. :?

update 2.0 : A neck has been secured. :) I'll let Martian speak of it in his thread.

As of this typing, the only major stuff I still do not have in my possession is the neck and whatever goes with it such as the heads, nut and depending on the particular neck, possibly a string tree.

As to miscellaneous stuff, I need a Fender CTS 500K audio split shaft pot, the string set (EB 9s) and a Fender tortoise backplate.

Scratch the string set, our good buddy, Tyronne has me covered!
