He can offer me Mars AND Earth, it will NOT happen!

Bet LARGE because this guitar shall NEVER leave my possession!

I feel a story coming on...

Call a person who works on guitars a tech, luthier or whatever. For someone in my position who has been doing it as long as I have and to the level I have, there is a curse which comes with it all: We look at most guitars, even at a distance and never do we say to ourselves, "Wow, what a beauty!" Rather, our experienced eye immediately starts looking at all the guitar's vital points such as but not limited to, the frets, how the nut is cut, the way the strings are seated in the bridge, the action, straightness of the neck, how the neck joins the body, the list goes on and on and on. Our elation with an instrument comes with us making it the best it can be but even at this, we'll sit back and look at the instrument remembering for example, the fret job that had to be done because the previous owner only hammered away on the first five frets, the nut that had to be replaced because the high E kept falling off the fingerboard, how the previous owner "had a friend who knew how to solder" who fried all the wiring, etc, etc. It's more a sum of the parts thing and not much more.

The point: For us guitar service personnel, having some kind of emotional bond to a particular instrument doesn't happen very often, sometimes never at all. In all my years of playing, sure, I've owned guitars with sentimental ties but NEVER were any of those on the level I feel with THIS one that we are building. For what you all did, are doing and continue to do for me, I'd literally have to be clinically brain dead for it to not have EXTREME sentimental value of the HIGHEST order. No, this one shall NEVER be sold and at the risk of coming off as melodramatic, the only way I'd let this one go is when it will have to be pried out of my cold, dead hands! And for the record, NO person or group has EVER in my life made me a gesture as generous as this. I CANNOT nor ever will forget it!!!

On all of the above. Guitars come and go, when you get one that is right, you're a fool to mess with that perfection. As I have been in the past.

You speak my heart mate, on all of it.

Humbled to be a part of it.

Thankyou for accepting it. I feel very happy.

The body has arrived:

Image

The little 'post it' note reads, "A gift from the guys on the Fender Forum."

I'm astonished and amazed! This is a brand new, Fender American Standard body, complete with the two point 'vintage' bridge and wang bar.

I readily admit it, I got choked up when I first laid eyes on it.

I've said this so much but it continues to need saying, THANK YOU ALL from the bottom of my heart!

The only parts withstanding now are the neck, nut and heads.

On a side note, I'm still contemplating original, superior wiring options. :)

Guitars...

Yeah, a certain analogy exists!

[ Project guitars do have their advantages. 8) ]

I do hope Martian likes what he sees so far - I wish I could see what he's seeing! The fly on the wall, Niki, eh?

Do the wiring mate, make it all you can.

You like I have probably had your fill of this switch does this, this one does that.
My biggest regret is that my no1 is a gizmotron'd beast and has lost it's plain beauty.
The worst is that I can't change it back. The pickups I so loved are long gone, given to a friend.

I look now and the guitars I enjoy the most are simple plain strat affairs, but thats just me.
Do what works for you, you got the braincells to know it and do it.

A neck should be arriving shortly.
I'll carve the nut to suit once I know what it is.

Happy to see you smiling mate.
