A Intergalactic Strat!! 8)

I'm sitting here wondering what can I do to get started with what I have on hand? I keep coming up with the same reality: As of this moment, I'm still awaiting something for each phase.

The only thing I'm doing right now is finishing up the wiring of the Super Switch (SS) on paper. Yes, I'm going with the SS after all. When I finally do display the wiring, don't laugh as I'm the furthest thing from an artist when it comes to drawing pictures of anything. All I can guarantee is that it will be readable.

As previously, stated, I know I could go nuts with options but I much prefer maximum, PRACTICAL versatility, efficiency and ergonomics. Besides, if anyone else chooses to use my wiring (which I hope many will), hopefully you'll be doing so because in essence, you agree with my choices and the logic behind them.

Here's where I'm at: As there is no known existing, let alone proven point of reference, literally eyeballing the interaction of the mechanical parts of the SS is my only guide. I've got it all worked out except for one last but critical detail where I can see no reason why it shouldn't work exactly the way I surmise. One more test is still necessary.

To be continued...

31? I'm worse than bad at maths so I'll try and solve this puzzle.
Hmm.

24+7 = 31           <--- very short! 8)
24/7 = 3,4285714286 <--- even shorter! Wow! :D

3,4285714286 abbreviates to 3,43. Sweet.

SO I shall rephrase.

I have a set of Hot Noiseless pups, a super switch and a soldering iron all ready to go for this one!

If you want, I'll more than happy to draw your diagram up Big Hair style. Up to you. :D

Martian I'm not sure you know how keen some of us are to find out what you've been cooking up in that control cavity... it's quite a tease each time to notice that Martian has posted on this thread... but then... another teaser... 8)
any clues? :D

I understand your frustration in wanting to start but feeling like you need all, or most of your components to do it. Sometimes I have a build setting on the bench for a week or two just waiting for a mini-switch to come in! Shoot me a email when ya get the turtle back and the 500k pot. Once ya get a neck and the electronic components, you should be able to start putting her together, right? That will be fun and we are all excited to see that!

Andy, thank you and yes, I'll take you up on this. As a matter of fact, I completed the last test on the switch and it is a go!

I do not have a scanner here so tomorrow from my job, I'll shoot you a copy of the completed wiring for your "Big Hair" upgrade.

You are reading my mind and yes to your question. I'm really 'chomping at the bit' to get started, believe me!

That's a great idea and logo you've come up with Nutter and I'm pleased that my Fratocaster idea has made the cut so far.I was hoping Martian would use the bridge assembly I have here-that he's still welcome to but I'll settle for having the name I came up with chosen as long as I can make a contribution to this symbol of international brother(and sister)hood.

Andy's diagrams are legendary. - Maybe even more legendary (and certainly more respected) than this Gentleman, whose hair-do strangely fits into the overall context...

Sure, it's only fair. I didn't want to comment on it until I proved it all out. As previously stated, the last test was a go so here it is: (Drum roll...)

It will have a master volume, this is the only totally stock thing about it.

The neck and middle pickups will be governed by a 250K pot and a real 1956 (or possibly earlier) .022uf "Bumble Bee" cap.

The bridge pickup will be governed by a 500K pot and a new, Jensen .047uf "paper-in-oil" cap.

On the Super Switch:

Position #1: Neck pickup only
Position #2: Neck and bridge pickups
Position #3: Middle pickup only
Position #4: Middle and bridge pickups
Position #5: Bridge pickup only

Obviously, I've sacrificed the redundant tonality of OEM Position #2 vs. OEM Position #4 in favor of getting that Tele sound which guaranteed, if it is there, we will use it!

I kept turning over in my head whether I should reverse Positions 2 and 3 but speaking for myself and I'm sure many others, the least disruption in how we habitually know and use a 'normal' 5 way would be best. In other words, the way I've chosen involves the least amount of thought in terms of which position does what vs. OEM. The same with the tone pots: As long as the 'lead pickup', so to speak is engaged, the 'lead tone pot' shall be controlling.

I hope you all will agree that the combinations I've chosen are in fact, the most usable, least mentally disruptive and versatile.

Of course, I will show the actual, completed wiring when the time comes.

Hi girls and boys. How are you all? 8)

In event of the recent decal-discussion I took the liberty of documenting the process from our very own Kozy814's thread Kozy's Franken Stein-o-caster build. I found quite a bit of info there, so I copied it all in one post to make it easier to read.
I sincerely hope you don't mind, Kozy!

Look at that awesome project he's done, folks! It's so cool it makes me wanna get up and scream!

PS When you said you've made the decal yourself did you actually do all the graphic art, find the typeface, do the curvyness and then print it onto a proper sticker? or did you design it and send it off to get printed?

I did the graphic design -- in Adobe Illustrator...
My plan is to get it printed on special laser friendly decal paper. Should be no problem to do it myself with the hi-res color laser printer at home.

Printed my decal sheet today - Laser printed on clear decal paper - nifty 8) . Made a few extras in case I boof the first couple...

From the junior guitar luthier news desk:

The decal is on the headstock  . It took a couple try to get it on without bending, buckling or creasing (glad I made a whole page of these.... :D )

Next step -- Tint.... 8)
Decal looks great!! (I'm giggling  )

Attached is a photo of the body with the neck, which is finished -- It's cured and sanded nice and smooth.

Right, so we know how to do it and if you want it, I'll send you the logo over, Martian. You have my email-addy so just let me know if there's anything else I can do for ya. :)

regards & thumbs up for the wiring!
