Mexican stratocaster has a tremolo bridge, however when tuned the back edge of the bridge sits about 8-10 up from the body face. having not owned a stratocaster before, I have no idea whether this is a fault. The bridge mechanism has three springs on the connection late inside the body. Any thoughts?

It sounds like your trem claw (inside the rear cavity) needs to be screwed tighter into the body or possibly that you need an additional spring added.

I personally use that to create more tonal options by pulling the trem bar up instead of just puching it down. but i think it affects the intonation alittle.

8-10 what? mm, inches?

There should be a gap of about 1/8" between the bottom of the bridge plate and body of guitar. Use the screws attached to the trem claw to set this. You may then have to go through and make sure the intonation is still good. Having said all that, it's also a matter of personal taste as to how you want your guitar set up. Some folks like the plate all the way down onto the body.

Look at the setup guide in the Support section of this site for more info.

guitar fixed, many thanks. Have kept the plate hard down and maybe that would affect it if I played with the tremolo, but that is not very likely. Cheers

I find a lot less tuning problems with the vibrato"decked" as with it floating if you change the guage or even brand of string you have to adjust the vibrato mechanism to compensate for the tension difference.BTW welcome toi the Forum,it's the ideal place for any guitar, amp etc. technical info.
