Awesome I'm going to get to it as soon as i get the other two parts i need. Im probably gonna go with a toggle since it seems easiest for me with the diagram. I'll let you know how it goes.

Howdy!

The DP/DTswitch in the diagram is the same for a push/pull so if you'd prefer that then go for it!

Anyway, Keep us posted and good luck!

:D

Right! Sorry I couldn't figure out how it'd work then i thought about it and realized I was dumb lol. I still went with the switch though cause I hate push/pull for regular strat knobs and I only paid $4 at radioshack for the toggle instead of $15+ for the pot. I'm just waiting on the super in the mail and I gotta head back to RS soon to pick up a cap. Any suggestions on what kinds? I think the stock one in it is .022 didn't know if i should change them both out. let me know what you suggest you really seem to be ahead of the game here.

No worries!

I'd go with the 0.022mf cap. The Specials Cap takes out some of the high end frequencies off the Neck pup up in position 2 or the Bridge pup in position 4. If you want a more jazzy sound in those positions swap the cap to a 0.033 or a 0.047mf. The sound might get a bit muddy though.

Enjoy! :D

Oooh just had a thought! If you wanted to try out a hole bunch of caps to see which works the best with your pups try this:

Crimson Guitars have a Cap Sheet which they use to test out different caps. I've been meaning to sort one out myself. Very cool. 8)

okay fun into some bumps. I got it together but getting quite a bit of static for one like way more than i should. Also I only hear my pickups when the switch is down. My ideas are that I may not have soldered everything quite as good as i should and also the jumpers I used pieces off the caps that i just bent not sure if it being exposed is causing a problem. Also it looks to me like the back bottom connections on the super switch have a wire that goes from one to another across the back. Is this correct or is it just a part of the picture? Let me know if you have any idea about what i might be experiencing. I'll give it a thorough look over when i get a some free time again. Thanks again guys

Oooh. Yep, somethings not right there then! I reckon its something on the S-1 switch

There are two wires that run across the top of the S-1 switch. They are the black wires on my diagram. Best to check those are wired on yours.

I had to lightly file the S-1 contacts in order to get the solder to take. Might be worth having another look to see if one has come loose.

When wiring its important to cross off and check each wire to make sure its secure before moving on to the next one. I was taught to make sure you have a good mechanical join before soldering.

Once those joins are soldered I give them a tug with my tweezers to make sure they are secure. Of course with the S-1 you can't do that so you just have to wedge the wire and hope the solder holds it there.

Image

Still its worth giving it a tug to make sure that its not going to come loose when install the pickguard.

As for using the cap storks Great minds think alike!

As long as your careful I see no reason why the above shouldn't work a treat. Mine did! :D

Let us know how you get on or if you need any help.

Andy

hmm... i am noticing you did your cap differently than i did i put it through the top of the S-1 and you said you have two wires that connect from one end the super to the other? I only saw one on the diagram. the one im talking about is the black line right under where it says 5 way super switch. I hope i'm reading it right...

Whoops! I think I may have miss read your post!

I can now see how my post above could be a bit confusing. Sorry about that! I was using those pics to show secure soldered joints. The S-1 switch shown above was used as a tone pot with a switch for the bridge pup. It was part of this wiring for my last build.

Anyway.....

Yes, you are right. On the diagram there is a wire that's runs round the back of the 5 way Super Switch. This is needed to connect all of the poles.

Just to make sure we're talking about the same Super Switch wire I've highlighted it in RED

Again sorry about the confusion, I do that every now and then! :D

That was the wiring that went into my last strat build. I've listed the pickup combinations about half way down the page in the link bellow.

Andybighair's Big Hairy Tone-caster Pickup & Switch Combinations

Pics of the Finished Strat are half way down page 33 of the same thread.

Enjoy and good luck! :D

wow that is a lot of combinations. lol I thought I was trying to pump a lot out of one guitar. well i got it all figured out i forgot 2 wires and a jumper so now it is almost perfect accept when the s-1 isnt pressed and I flip on the bridge pickup it looses a good bit of volume... not sure what that is about. What kind of mid boost do you have in the big hairy strat?

Hi,
i am using a fender deluxe vneck 2010.
5 way super switch used on it is different then normal 5 way super switch which is used in model 2004.
İ wonder if anyone has any idea if 5 way super switch can be configured in order to be used in my vneck 2010 with the same magnetics seleection?
İ designed one with 5 way super switch but i was not possible to getb tone control in position 2.
pls get in touch with me if you have a solution.
e-mail:ahmetvorhon@gmail.com
Thanks
Ahmet.

Same here, I did an aircraft technician aprenticeship - 'A good mechanical joint is a good soldered joint'- Franky Guymer! That was 40 years ago but is still valid.

Nice wiring job Andy. Did you do it or did Randel do most of the work while you sat there and watched
