you sold your only guitar to a guy that had to have it for twice what you paid for it correct? now your crying the blues because you dont have a guitar and by your own hand at that?
take the cash divide it, spend half on a new guitar and the other on bills.
you will have a new guitar and paid some bills. its pretty simple really.
ok, go buy you a MIM strat and spend even more on bills.
either way you come out way ahead than you are now.
lessons learned: dont sell the last of anything or your only.
2nd, this is the reason why its nice to have more than 1 guitar.
you gladly cut off your own foot then complain cause you cant run in the race.

Well, not knowing the extent of the financial situation Martian finds himself in, you shouldn't make assumptions that just paying "some bills" is enough.
It may be more than that.

ok tyronne look closer.
he didnt say he had to sell the guitar, he said he was offered twice.....
by the way the story is told one can assume that the guitar wasnt up for sale to begin with, but since the guy offered twice the price paid martian
jumped on OPPORTUNITY.

Yes, let's get this VERY, VERY STRAIGHT:

For starters, I am NOT crying the blues, period. I had bills to pay, saw a new resource to help pay them and IMO, acted accordingly upon it.

NO ONE twisted my arm and in NO WAY, SHAPE OR FORM was I looking for ANY kind of sympathy. If I could take the Strat transaction back with the opportunity to do it all over again today, I'd FREELY do it over again today. I was simply stating a sequence of facts where my main point was that I, after 40 some odd years, no longer own ANY Strats which is totally enigmatic for me, that is all.

Lessons not having to learn:

1. Know your priorities.

Protecting and providing for your family (and yourself for that matter) is at the TOP of the list, even if one has to give up one's favorite hobby device where surely, said hobby device can eventually be replaced.

2. See Lesson #1.

Back when I was single many years ago, I peaked at owning 37 super high end, collectible guitars. Over the years, one by one, I sold them off when hitting sporadic financial rough patches. No way did I cut off my foot. Rather, I utilized my resources to provide and maintain for my family. Did I feel bad about seeing these guitars go, knowing I'd probably never be able to own the likes of any one of them again? Hell NO! Not when compared to ANY member of my family's health and/or well being. I still stand by this right up to this moment and always will. If I still had some of those guitars left and some serious bills to pay, there would be NO hesitation on my part to unload them, all in one shot if such a situation mandated it.

To be even clearer, as much as I love guitars, playing them, building them, working on them, etc, etc, my family comes far out in front FIRST where a guitar then becomes completely EXPENDABLE to me!

As to allocating a percentage of the Strat's sale for a replacement, sure, I could have sold the Strat and split the proceeds to buy a MIM. Instead though, I chose to spend it on getting my daughter much needed, new eyeglasses as a surprise for her upcoming birthday.

So, for those who surmise that my aim was to piss and moan in the hopes of me finding some kind of sympathy and/or handout, you may want to consider that I would do infinitely better in this area leaving the indefinite loan of the PRS aspect out of my story. Oh, and for the record, such thought of possible charity NEVER even crossed my mind as again, this was not the aim of my story.

Notwithstanding, to those who offered to loan me a guitar or donate parts for me to build another Strat for myself, it is quite unnecessary and surely, I'll get by. I do want you all to know though, you have my profound gratitude and I won't forget such gestures of generosity.

Well Martian

It's your choice mate. I just thought it would be a nice way to put back to someone who's put more into this forum than most.

I don't know one practicing musician (not a hobbyist bedroom player) who at some point or another has had to part with his gear. And yes you're absolutely correct, priorities come first. Anyone who's a provider knows that.

Anychance of changing your mind on accepting parts? I reckon it would be a cool project of which you are supremely qualified and could teach us all a thing or two whilst undertaking.
When you find yourself in a better situation, give the thing to charity.

wow i cant say that ive ever seen a posts reply get taken so far off course. i guess thats the web for ya. things can get taken WAY wrong.
as for folks offering to help you out with supplies, i would take them up on it. whats that they say about looking thegift horse in the mouth?
you have some good hearted folks here offering to get a fellow player back up and strumming again. take them up on it and pass it around when the opportunity provides itself in the future.
sorry my post was taken the wrong way, that happens on the web often.
of course one can see that you wouldnt have sold it if it wasnt worth it to you in some way.

Sure ain't me you're talking about there.

This is not a charity event. It is meant as an act of friendship and true musicianship - we are of a guild that should support each other. I see nothing wrong with that. ;)

Still just a body missing!

Once again I learn the lesson of "assuming." Anymore, before I say or write something that might be taken negative by the receiving party, I try to get more information before doing anything. Never hurts to ask questions. It does hurt not too.

I might have a body, depending on what Martian wants to do.....

From what I can see, your post was taken at face value and now you're trying to save face by saying you meant something different. It's also funny that you would accuse anyone of "crying the blues" when the only one I've heard crying the blues lately is you, whining about your used Squier's trem posts.

first off im not one that ever saves face, i dont honestly care what others think period.
as for the whining your accusing me of, its no big deal kong.
the guitar honestly means nothing to me. i have way to many guitars to worry about that one bro. if the guitar was yours you would have done the same. lie and say you wouldnt.
its people like you that take stuff out of context and try to blow $@!& up and make it more than it really is, just to keep things going.
never can it be said that ive ever said anything out of the way on here.
crying the blues did not mean he was pissing and moaning, it ment that he had regret or at least sounded that way. ( since i have to explain it to you )
