These guitars are both 799 and have the soft v neck profile, radius and frets, but which is the better deal as far as pickups, electronics and hardware?

As I recall the Jimmie Vaughan has a 9.5"radius neck and the 50's has a 7.5 for me this makes all the difference. The pickups are a push JV Tex Mex the 50's replica ones, both great value in guitars.cheers

Oooh tough call. I wouldn't call one "better" than the other one. It's all a personal preference. The JV is more truer to vintage specs with the 6 screw bridge, it's the same bridge used on the American Vintage reissue Strats. So the JV gets an extra point for nice hardware in my opinion.

Electronics and pups are same qualit, but different. The 57/62 pups in the CP will be more vintage sounding than the slightly hotter Tex-Mex in the JV. The JV also has a different tone control setup with no tone control on the middle pup instead of the bridge pup like the CP. I would say play each of the two and find out which you like best.

edit to add: The JV has the truss rod access hole at the headstock, while the CP's is vintage style at the heel of the neck. No need to take the neck off of the JV to adjust the truss rod if that matters to you (I'm picky about that).

You're thinking of the Classic Series. The Classic Player has 9.5" radius. http://www.fender.com/products/search.p ... 0141102344 I get them confused also.

Thanks for the comments! Having the truss rod adjust at the headstock end is a plus for the Jimmie. Being that the JV has an American Vintage bridge, does it have a steel block?

CP 50s also has unique wiring not vintage wiring, and if it is a 2006 model it will have a steel block as well ( they later changed to zinc). Both will be really nice guitars

The CP also has the locking tuners which is nice.
I would think the most importing the to consider is if you want the two point or 6 screw trem.

I tried a CP 50s Strat and a few other Strats plus a Jimmie Vaughn and ended up taking home the J.V. as it had the sound and feel that most appealed to me.The Tex Mex pups had a real 60s L-Series vibe to their sound.Of course your best bet is to try both-after all it's you,not me that'll be playing the guitar.

I have both and I kind of prefer the Classic Player. One thing is I think the finish on the CP is a lot thinner than the typical globs of poly on the JV or other MIM stuff.

I also think the V neck on the CP is almost C shaped compared to the JV, that I actually found a little to narrow, but your hands might love the JV.

I also think the quality fo the neck and frets are better on the CP than the JV. Maybe I just got a better built CP and a Monday built JV
