Recently purchased the 70s classic series Strat. Are the same pickups used as standard fit on all the 50s,60s and 70s-looks as if so by the Fender web specs?Would they be alnico lll or V magnets?Cheers for any help in satisfying my curiosity-Johnny.

From the part #s listed in the Fender Support charts, the MIM Classic '50s and '60s re-issues use the same pickups but the '70s model has its own specific set. IIRC the '50s and '60s pickups are alnico V's but I don't know about the ones used in the '70s model.

Both are practically the same though. The 50, 60, 70s Classic series all use plastic bobbin/plastic wiring Alnico V pickups. The 70s is a different model number, so the winds may be different, but the construction is the same

+1, Yogi.

They sound very similar as well. Thus, if somebody is expecting something akin to the CS '69 vibe with non-staggered poles they're in for a bit of a disappointment. However, the '70s re-issue is a good-sounding Strat in its own right.
