Hello Fender community,

Im new here and im fairly new to playing guitar. I recently purchased this guitar : http://www.drumcityguitarland.com/drumcitygl/stores/1/Fender-2010-FSR-Standard-Strat-HSS-Flake-Rosewood-Fretboard-Rootbeer-Flake-6-String-Electric-Guitar-P3547C17.aspx after many store visits and consulting a couple of my friends who know a lot more about guitar than I do at the moment. This isnt my first guitar just my first one that deserves to be treated properly....

Anyway here is my question, I have been able to find info about this guitar only from retailer web sites and cant find any other info except for the standard hss stratocasters on the Fender website.

This this a rare colour combo with the rootbeer flake and the black pickguard?

Im just trying to get as much unbiased info as I can since i find the retailer descriptions rather short.

Thanks and I cant wait to read all about this new passion of mine.

Cheers

Hi tobybear,

The FSR is a "Factory Special Run", specially made for certain retailers, and those retailers would probably be the only ones to have all of the specifics. However, the FSR is usually a standard production guitar with a special color body, pick guard/covers/knobs upgrades not available on the standard production models. So your color and pick guard combination will be unique to this particular run of FSR guitars, however many that they decided to make, you'd have to ask the dealer. The specs for your guitar are probably the same as the Mex Std HSS Strat, like the pickups, fret size, neck radius, etc. You may or may not have upgraded pickups (doubt it), or other upgrades that are different than the production Mex Standard HSS. Check the link below for the Mex Std HSS Strat specs. :)

Contact Customer Relations - see http://fender.com/support/consumer_relations.php

You can send the serial number and model info to them, and they should be able to send back to you a detailed spec sheet.

You already know somethings:

FSR - Fender Special Run
Standard Strat HSS - meets Standard specs, made in Mexico.

You could look up the specs on any Standard Strat HSS on the product pages.

You would perform a setup for a Standard Strat - see http://fender.com/support/stratocaster_setup_guide.php

Hope this helps,

Gil, known as Bill somedays ... 8)

Does this mean that because it was made for certain retailers that it is less valuable or desirable for the majority of people or is it actually a special edition.

The reason I ask all these crazy questions is because i work an another industry that often allows bigger stores to order specific items that are made just for them, offer a name brand but are sold with a reduced price tag and are sometimes but not always at a reduced value compared to the stuff that the name brand either advertises on their websites or at other retailers.

Am i just being paranoid and having a tiny but of buyers remorse because of my first real guitar purchase and lack of a real understanding.

Or is it that I actually have something pretty cool?

I paid 550 with a list of 750... once again it seemed like a great deal,

Thanks again for those who replied so far, and thanks you for having patience with what some are probably rolling their eyes at  because im a terrible newbie.

Yes! You have the Standard, with extras, like the special paint, pick guard, etc. It is a nice finish that you don't see very often. You can't get the Standard in that color, so to those who like that color, this special run would be desirable, right? :)

Hi TB.

The FSR you have I believe were made for a distributor, or Fender offered it outside of there normal production, as it has shown up on quite a few places for sale. I got mine from Portland Music, they were able to buy a set amount of them, I have the sister to your, the maple fret board one in Sunfire orange sparkle.
A company will do this so they only have to make one run of this color, and once sold out, it's done.

As to the pick ups, standard MIM singles and a Fender Atomic humbucker.
I didn't care for the tone so I replaced mine with Fender custom shop units. (I changed it to the standard three single coils).
I did this because of the type of music I play (Blues). The balance of the three was uneven at best, the humbucker was overpowering, in position 2 there was an out of phase drop in output that made it unusable, and the stock singles while strong in output had no color to there tone. I liken it to vanilla ice cream.

But that is just me and my ears, please do not take this as a condemnation of the guitar, many find the stock set up to there liking, as you may find you like it.
I bought mine because of how well it played and how it looked, and I knew I could change the pick-ups to make it more to my liking.
Now it's prefect.......well it's prefect for me that is.
Post some pictures of you playing once you get it.

Thanks for all the info guys, I got it now and I'm loving the sound of this mixed with my little peavey vypyr 15 watt.

The biggest difference i have found so far with this guitar and the one I owned before is the sustain that i get now when holding single notes and cords.

The paint looks great in the sunlight and light other have said the finishe from further away looks like a gold top

Cheer.

Ill try and get a pic up asap
