I just bought a used 2001 AMSE(I think that's what it is) Strat from one of my wife's friends. Her and her husband have split up and she's selling his gear (ouch!) Anyways, I got the guitar. It was covered in thick layer of dust, the chrome was so dirty and the fretboard was covered in some kind of gunky stuff. It must not have been played in years. I don't think the guy could actually play anyways. So, I cleaned on this thing for a couple of hours, and it appears to have hardly been played at all. It shows no signs of wear, just a few dings and nicks, probably from being moved around and not kept in a case.
I was wondering if anyone could tell me some info about this guitar.
I think it's a 2001 judging from the serial number. Also, it has a 2 point trem, whereas I've seen on other 2001 AMSE strats having the 6er. Also, what's that hole for on the neck plate?
Any info at all would be a great help.
Here's ya'll some pics:

Hi Hollis Prince,

Looks like an American Standard to me, 2001 to 2002. The hole is for a small Allen wrench to adjust the tilt on the neck. :)

Yep that's a 2001 American Series. The hole in the neckplate is for access to the Micro-Tilt adjustment. See here: http://www.fender.com/support/stratocas ... _guide.php

American Series and Standards have always had a 2 point trem. If you saw one with a "6er" it was either a American Vintage reissue, Highway 1, or the new American Special.

Nice score by the way. Nice looking Strat. But "ouch" indeed for your wife's friend to be selling her ex's gear.

I think it's a fake

Just kiddin ya.

The American Standard has had a 2 point trem since it's inception in the 80's hasn't it? Thats always been my thinking of it.

The hole in the neckplate is for the microtilt adjuster. Want my advice on that? Don't ever bother using it ever. It's the cause of nearly every badly set up strat I've ever had to put right. Some people decide to tilt the neck and take the playability out the guitar.

That strat is in good nick. Shame on you for buying that poor blokes guitar. Now he's got no woman and no guitar to lament that fact with.

Thanks for the info guys, and fast too! Normally I would never buy someone's guitar in this situation, but this guy did some crazy stuff to her. He got behind on thier bills and ran up a bunch of credit cards all without her knowing. He also borrowed money from her own grandmother without her knowing. THEN he left her and moved back in with his parents and won't talk to her. She emailed him about the sale of his guitar to cover some of the debt and he agreed to sell it for $600 US. -Just so you guys know I'm not a total jerk for buying it.
This guitar is sweet though. The mohogany fretboard is very deep and rich and has a swirling grain(maybe I should say a curving grain). There is absolutely zero fretwear. There was even bits of plastic underneath some of the screws and knobs.
