i see many people unscrew their backplate, and i was wondering why... just for the looks of it or does it actually do something...?

well thats right... but you dont need to have acces to the springs all the time, so why not keep it on, unscrew when you have to, and then put it back...? gotta give some kinda protection or something since its there :)

This subject has been covered big time already. Here's the thread: http://www.fender.com/community/forums/ ... =backplate

It really doesn't matter if it's on or off. It's just a personal preference. Mine's off, the guitar didn't even come with one.

I generally leave them off.

But it's your guitar, do what you like with it.

I think it depends ot the guitar. My Deluxe Players Strat came with a Tortoise Shell Pickguard and White Back Plate? It's off of there.

My Red and White Buddy Guy Strat looked terible without it, it stays.

My old '88 White strat, well I lost it when I was changing String Sizes, and therefore Spring arangement when it was still new. I never miss it.
