Hi, I have a Fender 50's MIM Stratocaster(2009) with Texas Special pickups and I am not getting a great sound on positions 2, 4, and the bridge pickup. The bridge sounds like it doesn't have near enought bass for the SRV bridge tone and 2 and 4 are quiet, raspy, and just sound plain awful nothing like the tone of Lenny like I wanted. I know I have everything wired right the only problems I could think of are, the guitar has a maple neck which I know can defenately take a way bass, is has .09-.46 strings on it which are light but I can easily replace. If the Texas specials just don't sound good with anything on my guitar what other pickups would be a good substitute for a SRV tone?

Thank you

I'm pretty fond of the CS Fat '50s set. I have them in an ash-bodied hardtail with a maple neck (arguably one of the brightest-sounding furniture combinations around). They sound real sweet -- sparkly at the top, articulated through the middle, with solid fattitude at the low end.

I wouldn't give up on your TS's just yet though......try adding a base plate to your bridge pickup then wiring it to your bottom tone control. That often cures the "raspies" with those pickups. As well, try lowering them a skosh (especially the bridge).
