So I bought a used 3T SB, 60's Road Worn Strat from Guitar Center yesterday and it should arrive today. My plan is to eventually throw some Klein Jazzy Cat's in it but will probably hold on to it as is for a while to see what I want to do. Does anyone have any recommendations on upgrades? I will post pics once it arrives.

No need for upgrades, the stock guitar is fine as is.

Hi Drock2k1,

I would recommend a bridge upgrade, but leave the Tex-Mex pickups in, they sound great with a better bridge. The electronics are fine too, good quality. I used a Callaham Distressed model to match the "worn" look of the guitar. You may need to address the rough edges on the frets, depending on how they feel to you. Other than that, I think that it is a great guitar, in looks, feel and sound. You might check this thread also. :D

I got my new Road Worn a couple of days ago. The nut was broken on the E string so I had a Bone nut cut and installed. Raised the action so I could have some more room beyond the 12th fret too. I have to say, this is an amazing guitar. I was going to swap the pups for Jazzy Cats but after playing it, I don't know. :)

Texas Specials. The Tex Mex pups are just eh. Not Fenders best pups, not the worst, just nothing great about them IMO.

I have an American Special with the Texas Specials and honestly I like the Tex Mex in the RW more. I will say, I have heard the Tex Mex in other Strats and I only like them in the RW and JV strat.

On a side note, I played the Road Worn at Church while leading worship this morning and boy was I pleased. We do more contemporary/rock praise and worship so I was able to let it breathe on a couple of songs. It was a bit of work getting it to clean up a bit for slower stuff but with some tweaking I was able to do so. I have to say, I absolutely love the 7.25 neck.

I have Tex-Mex's in a Mexi-Strat and personally, I think they are pretty sweet. I think a trem block upgrade - see GFS solid steal/brass, would be a nice upgrade...

Put some Lindy Fralins or Kleins in there if you really want to hear what great pickups sound like.

I confess I do not understand the "whole road" worn thing.

Shelling out major bucks for a messed up guitar. And it's not a real wear. Kind of like fake boobies.

I was at a GC one time and they had a new MIA standard that evidently had taken a hard tumble off the rack and was dented on a corner and gouged on the face. They could hardly give it away, yet right next to it was a factory messed up guitar for twice+ the price.

No comprende..senior.

Not me, i would have gone for that American in a heartbeat. Always in the market for a flawed one at a good price.

I would have bought it but it was a damaged Olympic White maple and I had just purchased one a few weeks before.
