Hello all. AFter a bit of advice. How does the tone balance of the pick up on a 2010 Am standard strat compare to say a CS69 or Texas specials. Im after a single coil tone. But not massively biased towards the trebble. Have to go and try a few through my amp, but would like a basic knowledge before i do.
Thanks all in advance.

The CS69 is the most trebly and weakest of the three models you've mentioned with the TSs being the exact opposite.

Standard strat pickups have a sparkly top end, but I wuld not consider them "massively overly biased towards treble". They have Alnico magnets which have a warmer sound than Ceramic in general.

But then again, next to my EMG humbuckers, they sound a bit brighter with more presence, much more high end sparkle and lack low end thump.

I have been happy with my strat tones, and I cannot see any problem that a decent tone stack on an amp couldn't handle. Just expect to have to set the amp settings different than you would with your humbuckers. Under super high gain settings for my EMG equiped guitars, the strat sounded nasal, digital, and buzzy. I thought I would not be able to use my amp with it at first. But after some tweaking, I found some very nice tone with it. The frequencies cancelled by humbuckers came through very nasty with my single coils under high gain settings for humbuckers.

If you are lookig for a dark sound, consider a humbucker. That sound just is not for SC pickups. The majic of a SC pickup happens in the high end to me.
