Hi folks. I have a 96 strat, just had the neck replaced as I didnt have enough adjustment in the truss rod to get the relief out of it. I like to set them up according to Fender's specs on this site, but it had too much relief and the truss rod finally stripped out. So,...it has a new neck. Here's the problem; still too much relief in the neck, and the truss rod is very tight, on the verge of stripping this one out but stopped before it happened. Whenever I fret anything it pulls way sharp, unusable on stage. Anyone have any tricks to help me out? I really don't want to have to send it to Fender again as it took a long time to get it back

Have a local tech look at it. I've never seen that problem before and I'm suprised it's happened to you twice. Could you be mistaken?

Something sounds fishy about it. I agree with cryingstrat, you must be mistaken. Lightning don't strike twice.

I can see why you both would think that. But I set it up as per Fender's specs and the relief is too great. This guitar didn't come that way of course, it set up fine when it was newer. And my other one is fine as well. But putting the capo on first fret and fretting last fret, the relief is too much. There is no local tech here. When I called the tech that ordered the neck and put it on (across the state) he couldn't understand it either. Anyway, thanks for the replies, I guess I'll send it back. Just sucks not having a spare.

When you tighten the truss rod it adds relief, loosen the truss rod to remove relief is how I believe it works.

you should try a shim or the micro tilt if you have it and mess with the saddle height. maybe this will work?
