Hello.
Which Fender is better AV or HR?
I am looking for sound like RHCP and John Frusciante.
And I can buy used AV or new HR.

I think both are more than suitable for Frusciante's style of playing, they are equal on the level of quality, they should sound fairly similar to one another, what it comes down to is which feels better: vintage neck (C shape, 7.25 radius, vintage frets) vs Hot Rod (C Shape but fatter, 9.5 radius, med. jumbo frets).

I've never heard that guy's playing...so I can't comment on that, but I have a '62 HR and it's is the best Strat I've ever owned,or played and that includes owning an original '65 and playing countless others.
I brag on it here often. ymmv.....
I would say to try them both out and go with either one,you should be happy...the HR neck would be more modern feeling because of the 9.5 radius, unless you're already used to the 7.25 of the Vintage.

The AV 62 would probably be slightly closer.

What kind of amp do you have? That would be a big part of the equation.

You will probably come up short even with a nice new Fender Strat.

Check out John's gear at: http://guitargeek.com/rigview/576

Hope you can find a dealer who has an HR in stock. I've been waiting on a '57 since April. Had it with Guitar Center for two months. After their system botched the order, I turned it over to The Music Zoo in late July. Last check on the order has the factory taking at least 16 weeks for anything deemed "vintage". Still waiting.

Keep us posted.

All the best with it mate. I'm in the UK and had a 320mile round trip to find one in stock, when they were plentiful.

I suspect that, had I wanted a CA finish, there was one in the system at GC. But no sunburst. :?

Dont rule out the 59 thinskin.Great guitar with a 9.5 radius with 6105 frets and 50s custom shop pickups rather than the 59/62s.Great guitar.

No doubt. However....it's the modified neck profile on that '57VHR which interested me, and which I sold Niki on. His search was similar to the poster but for a "57RI.

I have a '59 Thinskin and a regular '57 RI and the necks are very different, the '59 has the thickest neck of any Strat I own...and that includes the '62 HR.
