I am planing to build a custom strat. I was wondering who I should go with? Warmoth looked great, but I have read about some of the others as well. Just wondering. Im not concerned with trying to go cheap on it, but i also dont want to break the bank. i want a great quality with my own mark on it. 2500 and under is what i am shooting for. I did a number crunch on warmoth and i can get the best they have to offer for just under 2 grand. What do you guys think? Thanks.

Warmoth is a very good option and certainly well liked by many, but for my money I would go with Musikraft. I got my replacement Tele body and neck from them and both were absolutely perfect.

My luthier is the one who suggest Musikraft to me, saying he had noticed their fret work being a lot better than the competitors. I had a good experience with Musikraft's customer service. I emailed them and they actually gave me a call to answer my questions. I was mainly asking about the flamed maple necks for custom order and the sales guy told me he would make sure I got a really nice one. Less than 3 weeks later, this beauty showed up. Frets were perfectly level and the edges super smooth

Wow, I have considered them as my first custom build but was a little concerned after seeing their prices...as in how low they were. It looks like people like them though, I may rethink them.

This is going to sound like a terribly dumb question but oh well, is any guitar that I put together going to come close to anything I could go buy for the same price? I really like the idea of building my own guitar but don't want to end up with something low quality.

Ideally you should be able to put together a guitar for $1000-1500 that will blow the doors off a $3000 custom shop guitar. This is just my opinion, but I feel comfortable that after my Tele project is assembled it will look, sound and play better than a $3000 custom shop Telecaster.

So my answer is, you should be able to put together a better guitar for less than you would pay for the same guitar had it been assembled by a manufacturer. In other words, your money on a build goes a lot further than it does on a preassembled guitar.
