Hello,
I recently picked up a new American Standard Strat. Sienna Sunburst/Rosewood. Cool guitar! The only thing I don't like is the Trem arm. I've only had Floyd Rose trem systems on some of my other guitars. Don't like the arm threading into the tail piece and whats up with the spring that falls out? every time I put in the case I have to be careful not to lose that, put a piece of tape over the hole....Kinda a pain in the $@!. Never owned a Strat before is this just the way it goes? Aside for buying a new trem system.

Hi kenjd6,

That Floyd Rose system will spoil you. ;) You won't get the same precision with a Strat Tremolo, close maybe. I used to use a trimmed down plastic wall anchor to screw into the hole to keep the spring in, easy in and out, stores in case, no sticky tape residue. Then I changed to a Callaham bridge block which doesn't need a spring for trem arm positioning. But, now I tighten the bridge flush with the body and don't use the trem anyway......I grab the Kramer with Floyd Rose when I feel the need for whammy action. :)

Ha,I was trying to figure out something to use to plug that hole maybe I'll give your idea a shot! I also like the idea of tightening flush with the body and bagging the bar. My wammy days are long gone and there's always the 1988 Jackson w/the Floyd if I get the itch :)

I took my trem arm to the hardware store and matched the thread pattern to a short screw. Now when I take the arm off to store my strat in the case I take the trem arm off and put the screw in it's place. No problems with losing the small screw and the installed screw looks a lot better than a piece of tape and it does not work it way loose if I leave the screw in when playing without the trem arm.

Its good advice :P I would like to contribute mine too :D If you're having troubles like that you could always invest in getting a Deluxe Pop in trem? like on your floyds :) Get a trem like on the strat deluxe models that way you keep the vibe if thats important to you and its over all a dogs b*llocks trem! :P

Best wishes

Thanks fenderibo,
That looks interesting. I was looking on their site and saw the pic's people posted of their strats with this bar. The pic's made it look a little bulky for lack of a better word. You have one does it look good? not to unconventional?

Thanks, kjd

Hi kjd,

Yes i have the Staytrem on my Strat, i got so fed up of th bar not being where i wanted it and that darned little screw falling out all the time, and also the creaking or knocking noises from the Standard arm. The Staytrem is the best thing ive ever bought...so smooth, responsive, stays where you want it too...totally an awesome bit of kit. I dont find it bulky whatsoever....

I know a lot of the purists wont like em, but its about playability right??

I never use the spring. I give my bar a few wraps of teflon tape and never look back. Works for me............... 8) Mike
