HI, i read everywhere that the HR62 has a satin back neck finish, mine has gloss finish and satin on just back headstock ?

I bought it used, is it possible that satin become gloss with use ?

Regards

The satin finish is on the back of the neck. It's more probable that the guitar has been played to the point of glossing the lacquer, prior to you getting it.

The specs list the neck finish as "Gloss Nitrocellulose Lacquer with Satin Back"

That says to me that they've used a gloss lacquer and just not buffed it to a gloss finish at the factory. A good bit of playing will soon buff that up. I've had it happen to a few guitars over the years.

That's the way mine is,and I bought it from a guy who buys guitars and puts them away as an investment....it was in brand new condition.
He has more money than I can imagine, and likes to but Strats....so I've gotten a couple of great deals.

Sounds like the previous owner buffed out the back of the neck.

If it turned glossy by use, it would be glossy in certain spots If it's glossy right up to the body, then it was buffed.

BTW, I have a 57VHR that also came w/ the Satin Back. I buffed the entire neck to a high gloss (I like glossy necks). I just used Fender Meguiers polish. It took me about 15 minutes.

Yeah, I had that happen on one of my guitars, it was buffed to gloss due to the play between 2 and 14th frets on the back of the neck. If you see the whole neck is glossy it is possible that it was buffed. Or it could be some weird neck exchange in the Fender factory.

I hate glossy necks! It's possible to knock of the shine with a bit of 0000 steel wool, or if you prefer a satiny, raw feel, lightly sand the finish away and replace it with matte finish tung oil, or Birchwood Casey's gunstock oil. Both seal out moisture, and neither have the tacky feeling your sweaty hand gets with a gloss poly finish.

try it on a guitar of little value first to see if that's what you're after. Applying the finish is easily done and requires no special tools, just attention and time.

I usually do the steel wool thing on my guitar necks, but the HR 62 that I have is perfect...honestly,it's the best playing and sounding Strat I have ever owned, and that's been several, not counting the ones I have played that friends owned.
The guitar gods were smiling when this one was made.
