Sweeeeeeeeeet.
You've just opened up a whole new sound to add to you're
arsenal.
It's gonna be hard getting your foot off the od pedal.

I love my Les Paul now, I almost sold it a few mos back.
Sure glad I didn't.

Kineman, that is a really nice SG you have there! Angus played a '61 re-issue for a brief time in the late eighties/early nineties pre 'The Razors Edge' as he couldn't find a suitable replacement for his much loved/abused SG he usually played. Legend has it that the wood was actually bogged with sweat and was starting to rot.

I think they are good value for that price.. I would pay that for a standard here in NZ.

I am pretty loyal to FMIC and all of their owned companies (Charvel, Jackson, etc.) but there are sounds that a strat just can't get, like a Les Paul's tone. about 85% of my collection is Fender (or Fender-produced) though, so it is normal for people to have different brands man!

everyone is the light side in my opinion! (save maybe for Ibanez... never really got in to them...)

No reason to feel guilty for buying an SG as everyone should have an SG and Les Paul to complete the colours of their musical palate. The SG and Les Paul have tones that can't be produced by Fenders but are essential for some songs.

Love it, play it, strangle it, make it sing, spill beer on it, let it sit for a while and come back to it. It will still be a great guitar today and forever!!!

lol, I think I will... I must say that I feel so much better having something different in my line up of rocket launchers...

Now I can go back to a Strat after playing the SG and realize even more how much I love Fender and visa versa..

Thanks everybody for the supportive comments.

Congrats! Nothing wrong with mixing up gear a bit... my 2 favorite Gibson are 335 and SG, love the tone of the SG but never felt comfortable playing one for whatever reason. I can play my 335 all day and night and never get tired of it.

I'm 40 next March and for some time I've been dropping my wife hints about the 61 re-issue SG. I was considering an SG Standard which is considerably cheaper but I own a Gibson Les Paul with the same pickups as the SG standard. Apparently the ones on the 61 re-issue are a hell of a lot better.

ahh the good old wife... god love her

Yes my wife encouraged me to go shopping for the very last time for what I wanted before it is no freedom with my money time. (House Mortgage)

I picked up the SG 61 RI and the GC guy had to pull it away from me after jamming on it for a good 30 minutes.

It sounded awesome through the Twin Amp.

I was that amazed by the tone of those pups.

The SG 61 RI is definately worth having in the collection.

Although I love Fender, just like everyone else is saying, you can't get all the sounds from a fender, and there is no dark side! I bought myself a 50th Anniversary 1960 Les Paul Reissue a couple months back and I have not regretted it at all, it's just completely different than a fender guitar. I also really want a 335 and I'm looking at the SG 61 RI, but I'm just waiting until next year - I'm guessing Gibson will do something special for the 50th Anniversary of the 61 SG.

Hope you enjoy your SG and play it like crazy!
