Hi all, today I walked into my GC with the intention of buying a 65 deluxe reverb amp which was to be my final amp purchase prior to my wife and I buying a house in two months time.

Well during the sale to which I must say there were only myself and three other guy's in the store, so there was no mad rush or quick decision making to be done.

Anyway after looking at the massively reduced prices on everything,
the sale really opened up the door to many other options for me.

Well Jimmy my GC contact said to me,

"You have every Strat known to man and you have a good mix of Fender Amps, so why not add something totally different to your collection"

I was thinking omg here we go, he said "Try this Gibson SG 61 RI"

Hesitantly I picked it up and omg, after playing it through a Fender Twin Amp to which I also recently purchased, I was just awe struck with everything about it, so today I purchased a 2010 USA GIBSON SG 61 RI"

On this occassion I don't understand my personal betrayl of my loyalty to Fender to which I still love through and through, but soon to make friends with all my Strats and Fender Amps will be Ms GIBSON.

Can anybody please help me understand is this normal and have you done it too.

Retail AUD $3523 Sale Price I picked it up for AUD $2100. :D

Cheers.

The guitar (it's actually a '62 Historic Shop RI Les Paul) is a '99 and the Bandmaster is a late '67 Silverface. They're a great combination.

Look mate all my gear is Fender, right down to the leads and picks but my next purchase will be something completely different. Today I went and checked out a Gretsch Projet and some LPs. Of course if I get an LP I'll have to match it with a Marshall which will get me into even more trouble with the wife!

Ibelieve there is no dark side when it comes to guitar gear. Its all GOOD!!

Cheers.

It's normal for me too. SGs are my favorite Gibson models and I own a Standard and a Classic with P-90s.

Your '61 Reissue looks fantastic. Congrats and enjoy!

Brand loyalty is nice as long as you don't overdo it. Time to try your Strats through a Marshall - Blackmore or Beck style... you might like it just as much...

Yeah good point.. I am considering selling my HRD 410 for a Egnater Tweaker amp or a Marshall..

I looked at a vox ac30 today but didn't really give it much notice when I was told it was made in china.

Strats and Marshalls great combination..

Thanks my good friend Mike :) Yes I will find it very ineresting indeed to switch between both Fender/Gibson with great joy I reckon.

Lucky I play in three bands to justify my purchases.. :P

I've got a buddy with the very same 61 RI SG - kick $@! guitar in every way. I love the pickups on that one! There is one at my local GC that has been there for over a year and I've considered picking it up - just haven't had the money to get it yet.

Not every guitar in my house is Fender, either.
I like my T-5.
Congrats on the new Gibby!

As a former SG owner I would not take a dozen SG's of any period or type for 1 good Stratocaster. Thats just my personal sentiment speaking. Its not intended to be a slam on you or Gibson. I just never really found anything in the SG that I loved. I bought it because I could not find or afford my dream Les Paul.

The only gibson now that I care about are the 335 or 336.

But rejoice if your happy and love it thats all that matters.

Aint nothing wrong with a bigger than 1/3 discount KK.

Especially in aus, I know what it's like paying aus prices, its tough.

It's at times like this I prefer to take a womans view on shopping. By going in there expecting to spend 3500, and actually only spending 2100, you've saved the family unit money. $1423 to be precise.... I wonder if theres any DRRI on Gumtree for under 1500?.... :D Its maths, you can't argue with maths!
