My question is for those who have put p-90's in their strat. If the guitar is routed for humbuckers, will you need to have the body cavities widened to put in p-90 pups? Are p-90's wider than humbuckers?

P-90's are actually narrower and longer than humbuckers. You would have to route the pickup cavity of a Strat and get a custom made pickguard since double bucker pickguards won't work for P-90's for size or mounting.

Assuming your Strat is factory routed HSH, I suggest you get humbucker sized P-90's. See here: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&sour ... oEBU_QlP6n
Many makers both cheap and expensive make them. They sound just like P-90's but will fit in your Strat and mount to a HH pickguard without routing anything out.

Cool, many thanks to you. I figured that might be the case. Guess I'll give that a try then!

It's the guitar you're dreaming for?

You sir are a visionary. How's it sound? You had to route the body cavity right? Think I'll do that just for the heck of it. I'm not worried about resale value, I want to bend and mold the guitar to be and sound like I want. Like a mad scientist!

Have you thinked about putting a third P-90 in the middle? Many Fender Strat bodies are routed for HSH, but there's a bunch of FSR Strats which feature an HHH rout.

Using three P-90s on a Strat is like putting three full-sized humbuckers, Suhr and Tom Anderson make Strat pickguards specially cut out to accommodate three P-90s.

Fender has launched a Strat-O-Sonic guitar with one or wo Black Dove P90s in 2003, but this model didn't lasted long and was discontinued in 2007.

Check out Rio Grande pickups. I think they are called "Dirty Harry" pickups.

Also, check out Pete Biltoft Vintage Vibe SP90 pickups. I put them in my Strat and I love 'em!

You get the growl and girth of a P90, but you still retain the spank and sparkle of a Strat.

Here's my baby:
