are there places online to assess the value of a old guitar?
i have a 98 or 99 american standard, trying to figure out how much its worth.

Also if there is a tiny scratch on the front how much would that depreciate the value if it looks otherwise brand new?

If you're looking for a reference book there's the Blue Book of Electric Guitars.

Guitars similar to yours are selling on Ebay for about $650 to $750. That sounds about right to me. If this seems low to you remember your guitar is 10 years old, but not old enough to be vintage. It's just a used guitar and there's a lot of em out there.

If you wait another 15 or 20 years maybe. Some scratches and dings are expected on a 10 year old axe. They do little to affect the value unless they are huge and ugly. No one I know expects a perfect finish on a used guitar.

A guitar is worth what a person is willing to pay for it. I collect guitars, and always find deals on guitars that are "worth" more than what I have paid. The 2008 Vintage Guitar price guide is a good source for pricing of guitars in excellent condition. What is that guitar worth to YOU????

Good points for you to go off of so far. A '98 or '99 probably isn't going to go up in value to much even in 15 or 20 years. Are you wanting to sell or something or is wondering? I remember buying my '99 and my '00 for $650 new so for them to still be worth that used is a great thing. ;)
