Greetings - I have a 1991 USA standard Strat in a light metallic greyish green. Fender Consumer Relations is of no help at all...they say there is no resource for listing Strat colors by production year. One response from them was "pewter", a color not even thought of in 1991!

In different light, this color kinda rolls into a goldish green. It is lighter than Sherwood Green metallic. It is not a sparkle finish, but a muted metallic. The guitar has not been refinished. I can't seem to attach a photo to this post, but if anyone has an idea, I'll be happy to e-mail a photo.

I'd like to find out the color because I have only seen it on one other Strat in the past few months of looking. Sure, there are tons of blacks and bursts, but not many of this color. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks.....CTC

Pics are needed to solve this mystery.

Copied from the FAQ button above:

Thanks, but that's WAY too much effort. This site and forum are not very user-friendly. It's rather discouraging and disappointing when you go to the manufacturer (and the manufacturer-sponsored forum) and can't find basic info. Although I own 5 Strats (3 USA and 2 MIM) and love them, I am thoroughly disappointed in the company support behind them.

You can always call the head office with your serial number and they can tell you what color it was when it left the factory.

Here's a question for you Sir, "Do you like the color?"

If so, then who cares what it's called.

I like the color, but may be selling this one in the next few months (I don't really need 5 Strats). Therefore, I would like to be able to present it properly with an accurate color name.

Fender couldn't be bothered. I did provide the serial number and they said they had no list of colors that were produced by year. 2 different Fender Consumer relations reps couldn't have cared less....one of them didn't even reply to my follow-up. See my frustration now? Thanks.......CTC

Hi chris-carter3,

Maybe there was pewter in 1991. Does the color look like this?

Hi shimmilou, I don't mean to sound like a know it all, but unfortunately Strat Collector has that one wrong. That color is called what Fender called (#91) Black Pearl Burst. Pewter was this color:

Or like this Clapton Strat:

Thanks to both of you! My guitar is somewat close to pewter, but has a definite greenish tint that adds a goldish tint in direct light. It is closer to the lighter (outside) color on the photo from Stratcolllector, but WAY lighter than the darker body color on that guitar.

Ok, since it's "way too much trouble" for the OP to post pics, we'll be guessing until the cows come home. My next guess is Chartreuse.

I think one starts to understand why when people call up Fender and say, Hey I have this Strat I just bought that is kind of Greenish metallic, well, really kind of greyish, brownish, pinkish, can you tell me what color it is? I am sure they get a lot of calls like that. Pictures, as it is said, is worth a thousand words...... I suggest if a person wants to know what color there guitar is and comes to the forum, to take the time to figure out how to post it....it is very east to do. After all, most of the picts we post in doing the guess work are all posted from our end....

Hi Xhefri,

Thanks for the color info on the stratcollector Strat, I thought that it looked kind of greenish-greyish-sorta-pewterish-gold-in-the-lightish-mondayish..... I wonder how much effort it would be to post the serial number and let one of us have a go at calling Fender. I have called them on two occasions about Strat serial numbers, and got detailed info on each guitar, including the color. There are 2 numbers listed on the website, if that matters (480) 596-7195 or (480)-596-9690, and I seem to remember an 800 number... ?
. Maybe emailing them would be a better option?

Good point. I have called Fender on a number of occasions and they have always been helpful. Over the years they have tried to have better PR. Some other people I know have called them with good success was well, but it is a bit hard for them (or us) to be psychic.
